Yu Kee Claypot Rice

Food Republic has a new concept food court at the Capitol Piazza featuring famous stores from all over Singapore and even neighbouring country. There are long queues at every stall during meal times and it can be pretty difficult to get a seat. One particular store stood up to me as they sell various Malaysian goodies like Klang Bak Kut Teh, clay pot chicken rice and other clay pot dishes.

Their dishes are quite affordable ranging from SGD 6 onwards

The orders are freshly cooked at the stove right in front of the stall. Each clay pot is well heated to ensure the food is hot and also to give it the extra wok fragrance.

They also provide chilli at the side for their customers

I ordered the clay pot bee tai mak which is rice vermicelli shaped like a worm. Bee tai mak is commonly eaten either with soup or dry with gravy.

The clay pot is well heated and it keeps the dish semi boiling even when served at the table. The main toppings of the dish include an egg, fish cake as well as minced meat.

The bee tai mak is well seasoned with every piece nicely soaked with the soy sauce gravy. Each piece is also well cooked so it is soft with a slightly chewy texture.

I ordered an extra topping of enoki mushrooms thinking that it is added to the main dish so when it came as a side dish, I was quite disappointed. The mushrooms were drenched in their special soy sauce gravy and topped with fried shallots.

Overall, the flavours are considered good for the dish that I ordered and I also see many customers ordering their bak kut teh and clay pot chicken rice so it might be their 2 flagship dish which is worth trying the next round.
