Chua Lam’s Dim Sum – Chongqing

After trying them in Shanghai, I immediately told my friend that they serve tasty food when we were searching for a lunch place in Starlight Plaza

The look of the restaurant is similar to the one in Shanghai, with modern and minimalistic furniture. The whole space is bright and spacious, with many seats for customers

I like how their plates have these cute phrases about living a beautiful life, which makes your mood improve while waiting for their dishes to arrive

Since it was my personal visit, I was able to order dishes which I personally wanted to try: crab and shrimp dumpling, beancurd seafood roll and hawthorn dumpling. The dim sum was generous in fillings and tasted fresh with balanced flavours. The only item which was slightly lacklustre was the beancurd roll, which I found quite dry

For fried items, we also ordered the sauteed rice roll with crispy shrimp, crispy fried milk roll and their sweet barbecue pork buns with hawthorn. The fried items were all done well with crispy skins and juicy insides. The rice roll was savoury and addictive, while the milk roll was creamy and sweet. The pork buns were similar to the ones we have in Singapore, but the hawthorn does give it a slight tangy flavour, which cuts the greasiness from the pork

For some of our mains, we have the pork with century congee, fried oyster omelette and claypot. The congee was cooked perfectly with a smooth texture and generous ingredients, while the extremely crispy omelette pancake has a good crunch with bites of umami flavours from the oysters. The prawn claypot was also sweet and springy, while the vermicelli absorbed all the flavourful sauce from the prawns

Overall, the food still does not disappoint; the flavours were clean and on point for the traditional Cantonese dishes, and the modern fusion dishes are quite interesting and refreshing in terms of flavours. The service is also good and prompt, and it is always nice to dine at Chua Lam’s dim sum
