Peach Garden OCBC

I have been to at least 4 other outlets of Peach Garden Chinese Restaurant for their dim sum buffet and a la carte Chinese dishes buffet. A notable household name in Singapore, many Chinese families will choose Peach Garden as their venue for weddings or birthday celebrations. Serving authentic Cantonese cuisine, Peach Garden has strong accolades from publications like Singapore Tatler and Wine and Dine

Peach Garden has categorized its restaurants into fine dining, traditional Chinese restaurants, casual dining and noodle house. Other than their award-winning restaurants, Peach Garden; under the Select group, also offers catering services. As the only restaurant in the fine dining category, the OCBC outlet pays strong emphasis on the use of premium ingredients. Located on the 33rd floor of the iconic OCBC Centre, the restaurant allows guests to dine with spectacular views through the glass walls, looking out across the Singapore River, Esplanade and Singapore Flyers, one of the many beautiful scenes of the Singapore skyline. Note that for those who wish to have a view of the skyline, you will need to book the private rooms

As we had relatives in town, we specially booked in advance and asked for a table next to the windows to get a view. As we were sitting in the main hall, the view we got was the CBD district where you see the tall skyscrapers and the sea in the distance. With a senior citizen discount, we ordered a variety of dim sum and cooked dishes. The steamed dim sum dishes were good as the ingredients were fresh and the meat was all springy and tasty. My only complaint was the slightly thick skin for the prawn dumpling and xiao long bao

The next batch of items arrives slightly later and we have the chilli vinaigrette dumplings, prawn and char siew rice rolls, fried prawn spring rolls, fried yam and meat dumplings and fried prawn and banana rolls. The fried items were all decent and delicious but the chilli vinaigrette dumplings were a letdown as you can hardly taste the spicy sour sauce as the soy flavour overtook the main vinegar sauce

As the Peking duck dish was not found in my relatives’ hometown, we decided to order a Peking duck for them to try. The ones served here were served with egg skin instead of flour skin together with the usual cucumber, spring onions and sweet sauce sides. I did not manage to take a picture of the gorgeous duck as the staff was really quick in slicing and serving us the duck skin. We had a choice to stir fry the rest of the duck meat with ginger and spring onion or simply chop them up and we chose to chop them up and brought it home as we were quite full. For the taste of the Peking duck, it was very succulent and delicious as the sliced skin has a thin layer of fats, it was very juicy when wrapped with the skin and condiments. The chopped meat was also very flavourful when eaten on its own. Everything about the duck was great except for the price tag

To ensure the family get fed, we ordered 2 main carbohydrates which are the crispy noodles with seafood sauce and the fried mee sua which is my mum’s favourite. The noodles used for the crispy noodles were quite different from the ones you can get from the zi char store, they used thick flour noodles and fried them till extremely crispy while the gravy used tasted quite like a thick corn and seafood soup. In terms of taste, the flavour was light but very delicious and was not greasy at all. I really like this noodle dish as the noodles have both a crispy and soft texture at the same time so it was a bowl of multiple-texture noodles

The mee sua was also done well with strong wok hei as you can taste the flavourful charred flavour in the mee sua. What was nice was the mee sua still has a nice bite and texture without being too mashed up from the frying. The noodles were packed with ingredients in every scoop

Overall, the food at Peach Garden doesn’t disappoint too much as they do use quality fresh ingredients and the flavours were definitely on point and well balanced. While I will not say the dim sum is out of this world, their cooked dishes are definitely the better ones. For those who are willing to fork out premium prices, Peach Garden OCBC does not disappoint with their food, service and view. One note for people with elders, we visited on a Sunday and the main entrance is not open so do alight at the carpark to get to the lift lobby to avoid unnecessary walking
