Wee Nam Kee Restaurant

Chicken Rice is like a national dish to Singapore. Although it is widely available throughout Asia, there are a few really good restaurants in Singapore dishing out plates of chicken rice daily.

Wee Nam Kee has been in the business since 1989 and has won many culinary awards like Top award at people’s choice award 2010. There are currently 4 outlets with one of largest at Marina Square mall.

The restaurant takes an open concept area within the mall and transform it into a space with nostalgic memories.

From the main door; old wooden doors from 1960s were used with the ancient wooden pillared windows down to marble tables and wooden chairs within the restaurant, everything spells the 70s or 80s.

The menu features chicken rice in sets as well as other Chinese dishes.

When it comes to chicken rice, they offer 3 kinds of chicken ; the poached one, soy sauce based and roasted one

The chicken rice set here includes the chicken, rice, choice of vegetables or dumplings soup at only SGD 8. The roast chicken meat was tender and juicy with a nice roasted skin

The poached chicken was equally juicy and delicious

The rice was very fragrant and oily with a strong taste of chicken oil and shallots.

The soup that came as the set was very decent with 3 dumplings each. The dumplings were plump and filled with meat and prawn fillings

We had a side order of roast pork but were disappointed with the non crispy skin

Overall, Wee Nam Kee offers authentic delicious chiclen rice and sub par roast pork. With its pricing structures, it is still worth to visit them.
