What do you do when there is a huge jam on the causeway? You are in luck! Instead of waiting in the car on the causeway with inching traffic, there are many cafes in JB which closes pretty late. By the time, you are done with your cuppa, the jam would have cleared. The living room closes at 1am and maybe locals hang out here as well.
The air conditioned area of the café is quite small with only 5 – 6 tables while there are about 6 – 8 tables outside. As there is a pub just next to it, there are plenty of Shisha smokers and it can get quite smoky outside. The interior is quite simple in design with no special focus.
The menu is also pretty simple with café food like western meals like fish and chips, sandwiches, spaghetti as well as the usual cakes and desserts.
The floral and herbal tea came in tea bags so the maximum times to refill your glass is only 2 -3 times before the tea turns bland.
There are also various kinds of soda and ice blended drinks. One of the more interesting ones is this series which has jelly bits within the frozen drink. I had the lychee jelly with ice tea drink which was not too sweet and nicely refreshing.
The French toast we ordered was pretty decent with a nice layer of well fried egg batter and soft warm bread inside. There is also a nice drizzle of maple syrup with the French toast.
The chocolate lava cake had a nice consistency once cut into. The chocolate was warm and smooth and flowed out of the cake nicely. The lava chocolate was dark chocolate and has a rich consistency and fragrant bitter sweet taste.
The tiramisu cake was also good with nice soft vanilla cake soaked in liquor and sandwiched with cream and cocoa powder. It was a perfect balance of sweetness and liquor taste.
Generally, The living room is a nice place to spend a few hours with really nice and decent desserts. Although there is no special theme or focus, the desserts are quite worth your time and calories.
