Holiday Inn Bangkok

I had the opportunity to travel very often to Bangkok for work for the last 5 years and I have stayed in almost all the major hotel chains because of events and meetings. While all the hotels are 5 stars and above, there is always the good and the bad of every hotel. Personally, I have a few favourites and I will be writing a review for each of them in my next few posts. All photos are taken from the hotel websites as I have not taken much photos during my work trips. I leave the same review on my trip advisor account so you can check that out too

Holiday Inn is under the IHG group and there is many of their hotels across Bangkok. The favourite one I like to stay in is the one located at Ploenchit which is just in front of the Chit Lom BTS station. Located at a fantastic location which is opposite Amarin mall where ladies can find a good hair salon and nail salon as well as a good foot massage on the 3rd floor called foot master. The hotel is 2 mins walk to the famous Erawan Shrine ( 4- faced buddha temple) 5 mins walk away from Central World Shopping Mall and Big C shopping centre. You can also reach the famous platinum mall by foot in 6-8 mins and Siam paragon in 10mins by the sky walk. The holiday inn hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel.

Once you reach the hotel, the staff will usually greet you and open the doors for you which is the Thai service standards. The lobby is brightly lit and very spacious with a lot of waiting areas. There is also a dedicated check in counter for all IHG members. There is a new and old wing to the hotel. There is not much of a difference in the rooms even since they completed all the renovations in the rooms. Personally I prefer the old wing as it is closer to the entrance so when I lugged my shopping back in a taxi, I do not need to walk as far. The new wing is nearer to Hotel Intercontinental side and you can reach Gaysorn Mall through the connected walk way through Intercontinental but the walk way closes at 9pm. The check – in experience is generally quick in all my visits except once where they over booked and upgraded me to a room in Hotel Intercontinental which I totally did not mind.

The room is very standard in size with enough room to laze around to watch TV as well as work at the desk. You can either get the view of the main road or the back of hotel intercontinental depending on which wing you are staying. You can have a selection of soft and hard pillows within the room and if you require other kinds of special pillows like latex or foam ones, you can get housekeeping to deliver it to you. The bed is more on the firm side which I like.

There is a huge glass where you can see the bedroom from the bath tub. For those requiring privacy, you can pull down the blinds in the bathroom. The entire room is in white, cream  and green colour décor with brown carpet.

The bathroom is of a good size with either a bath tub area or a separate bath area depending on the category of room you are booked into. Full set of amenities are provided as well.

The buffet breakfast is served at the café located at basement which can be reached from the lobby through a flight of stairs. You can also take the lift and enter the restaurant from the back door. There is a satisfactory spread of common American breakfast items like toast, sausages, scrambled eggs, baked beans and bacon as well as an eggs station where you can order omelettes or sunny side ups. There is also a fresh fruit juice station, fruits station, salad and cold meats section, waffles and Chinese congee and fried noodles section as well as Thai traditional noodles section.

The restaurant itself has plenty of space and is very comfortably dressed in colourful chairs.  Overall, the food is pretty good although the quality is just very general.

There is a very small pool located in the centre of the hotel where all guests will be able to see while walking to their rooms from old and new wing. I have never tried the pool since I find it too small with no privacy.

Overall, this is one of my favourite business hotels because it is not too expensive, the location is fantastic for the quick shopping spree and the service is really good. Although I had a few bad experiences where the sheets were not cleaned enough or the amenities not refilled promptly,  the housekeeping was quick to solve my problems.
