Butter Studio

I was waiting for my dinner slot around Jalan Besar and decided to grab a drink and chill around the area when I chanced upon the Butter Studio Bakery Cafe. Most of you might be familiar with Butter Studio as an online cake delivery brand with takeaway counters at Takashimaya, Tampinese and Bugis but they actually have a cafe at Jalan Besar

Nestled along a row of shophouses, the Butter Studio Bakery café is quite compact and cosy. The layout is narrow and long so you will be greeted by the row of ice cream chiller and cakes before the dine in area behind.

The dine in area is quite limited in capacity with most of them 2 seaters and only 1 larger table which accommodates up to 6 people.

Their menu is fairly simple and straight forward with the usual coffee and teas. Most of their cakes and desserts can be seen at their chiller display so unless you want the waffle, most customers order their desserts and cakes from the counters

Alternatively, you can also see their menu on this very nicely drawn chalkboard menu just behind the counter

They have some pretty interesting flavours for their ice cream like the milo, ondeh cheesecake, lychee boysenberry and earl grey lavender. You can choose to order the ice cream by scoop or as an add on to the waffles

The cakes and cupcakes display case was filled with very prettily decorated cakes especially the cupcakes with unicorns and dolphin tails

One of their more popular cake is the ondeh ondeh cake with gula melaka while their mini cakes have some very fantasy looking designs like the mermaid one on the right and the salted caramel one on the left

For those who prefer non cream cakes can also opt for these cakes like the lemon drizzle sponge, brownie and also butter pastry

The teas served were from tea bags and the pot is sufficient for 2 person to share

I had the lychee ice tea which was quite sweet so I had to ask for more ice to balance out the sweetness

We have the waffles which came with 1 scoop of ice cream. The ice cream was pretty creamy with a nice light lychee flavour while the waffles had a slight crispy to the edges. The waffle texture itself is more soft and moist compared to the fluffy kind

We also ordered the apple crumble tart which came with a maple syrupy drizzle. I liked that the crumble on top of the tart was very buttery and crunchy which gave the tart very nice texture and the tart itself was not too sweet. However, the filling of the tart was slightly disappointing with a flat taste.

Overall, the Butter Studio café is very small and suitable for a short chill out session or just drinks, it can get overly crowded and not suitable for long sessions with big groups. Most of the customers actually drop by to get take away cakes so the offering at the café itself is generally alright in taste although not extremely memorable
