Any females with long hair will understand the troubles of finding the right hairstylist who understands what you really want out of your hair style without burning a huge hole in your wallet. Chez Vous Salon is not new in the scene as they have their first salon in Takashimaya since 1995 and is known to have a rather high price list servicing many rich Tai Tais. Somehow a Facebook ad hit me sometime before Chinese Lunar New Year about their new salon Chez Vous Hideaway with a rather interesting pricing structure. They boast an all transparent price list with 4 easy to choose bundles ( example 1 haircut + 1 service or 1 hair cut + 2 service )
Deciding to give them a try, I made an appointment and arrived at the location with excitement. Prior to my arrival, the salon sent me at least 2 SMS to confirm my appointment as well as provide directions to find the salon since it was a ‘hideaway’. On the 14th floor of Ngee Ann City Tower B, it was hidden at an obscure corner with an extremely eye catching door. While walking towards the door, I felt like Alice going to wonderland through a magical door.
Once past the yellow door, you are greeted by a small room with big character. This is where the reception and cashier is located. It basically looks like a secret library chamber with hidden doorways. If you arrive early enough, you can take your time to multiple pictures for your Instagram.
The picture opens up to the next section which is the complimentary spa area.
You are immediately greeted by an entire wall of sweet flowers in bright tones and finally the name of the salon in a lighted signboard. There are complimentary tea, biscuits and snacks for customers who arrive before their appointment to enjoy at this section.
When the lights are dimmed, you can enjoy a complimentary 15 mins spa service like the red light laser therapy for the scalp and the oxygen bar for fresh doses of oxygen to rejuvenate your body.
Past the floral wall lounge where you get the 15 mins spa service, you will be greeted by the bright care and industrial styled main hall of the salon. With minimal decorations, there is only a simple potted plants area in the centre and 10 stations to serve 10 customers at any one time.
Once you are seated, you will be served this cold lemongrass drink with a rice cracker snack and a cold towel to keep yourself feeling refreshed.
There is a menu where you can order more tea, coffee or other hot drinks which are all complimentary.
The tea is served in a very sleek and Nordic looking cup with wooden covers and coaster. The tea can be refilled or changed at any time.
On the day of my appointment, they had another 5 -6 customers who were also in the midst of their treatments. Since I had an appointment, I expected to be attended to by my stylist pretty soon but I was actually made to wait for 20 mins before my stylist was introduced to me. I was slightly upset by that time but I was treated to little surprise.
This lady brought a tray of aromatherapy essential oils and told me to choose a smell. I chose a lavender smell and with that she started to give me a head, neck and shoulder massage with the essential oil. Thereafter, I realised that this was part of the service guaranteed in their website to help their customers relax in their visit. There was also a pink salt lava lamp to help purify the air. Immediately after the massage, my stylist started to work on my hair, recommending the correct treatments and cuts for my face shape.
I was next led to the shampoo area which was quite dark with plush comfy seats. The side walls were huge LED screens showing very calming and interesting jelly fish swimming around the ocean. While I liked the moving jelly fishes, I think it would have been more relaxing if they were placed on the ceiling since most customers would be facing the ceiling while washing their hair.
Once we got into the motion, the overall service standards of the stylist and the assistants were very high and they were quite attentive and polite. My stylist brought me this mask when he was doing the Keratin treatment as he said the flumes coming from the chemicals can be too strong.
My cut hair was also promptly swept up and clean so the area remains tidy and clean.
Once you are done with your visit, you are led to the exit which passes another area which looks good for Instagram.

Through another sliding door, you will be led back to the cashier area.
There is another private room area which can be booked in advance for more private sessions.
Overall, the experience at the salon was good and the expertise of my hair stylist is quite high. The price was also as explained in their website and there was no hidden costs. I had the 1 haircut + 1 service plus an additional Keratin treatment so it was a total of SGD 199 + 99 + 7 % GST. The 15 mins spa experience and massage was of course a plus point to the entire experience.
With a the good points said, I do have some minus points for the salon; the 20 mins I was made to wait even though I had an appointment. The 1 service included in the bundle was actually only a leave on conditioner treatment which took only 10 mins. As such, paying SGD 199 for the haircut and a leave on treatment is very pricey.
