Where ever I pass the Bijin Nabe restaurant, there is always a super long queue during meal times. I am always curious about the attraction of this restaurant since to me it is just a Japanese hot pot.
So i finally had a chance to try out this restaurant and there was absolutely zero queue at the Chinatown Point outlet during lunch.
This outlet was fairly small in size and can only house approximately 40 to 50 people in total. Each table comes with a induction plate for the collagen pot.
The original chicken pot comes at SGD 25 (exclude tax) per person with a standard set of chicken chunks, vegetables, mushroom and meatballs. You can choose up to 2 more ingredients from a list in addition. I chose the prawn and red radish. You can also choose the set that comes with pork or seafood at a higher price range.
Firstly, the pot came with the collagen soup in it’s solidified stage.
It took less than 5 mins with the heat to turn to liquid soup floating with a layer of yellow fatty goodness
When the soup comes to a boil, the server will serve you a cup of soup for taste. The soup is very smooth and the flavour of chicken and the chicken collagen is so thick and strong. The soup can feel pretty oily but yet not over powering, instead it leaves a nice sheen on your lips and a nice chicken taste lingering in your mouth.
Next the server will serve you the chicken which comes with the soup base
They will then start to put in the ingredients for you.
Once the soup boils, ypu can start feasting.
They also provide simple dipping sauces for you like shoyu, chilli paste and some pickled vegetable.
Finally they presented this extremely cute plate with 2 small jelly pieces for dessert.
Personally, the price is quite pricey for the set and the quantity of ingredients given but the soup is totally out of the world. This is what I call chicken soup for the soul where it totally warms the heart and body and the chicken taste is so saturated it is like drinking the essence right out of the chicken. I can fully understand the queue and I will definitely return just for the soup.
