Everyone loves a good Japanese barbeque especially one with good quality meat and ice-cold chilled Japanese beer. This is a popular outlet with many locals having their meals here after work with friends and colleagues. The restaurant itself is quite small and the tables are generally small and squeezy just like most Japanese restaurant. However, I feel that these small and tight restaurants do have one of the most delicious food. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor through a rather narrow flight of stairs.
There are only about 7 small booth seats available at the 2nd floor. Not sure if there are other floors available. For the seats in front, it is the normal western styled seating but the booths at the back are the Japanese seats where you have to remove your shoes and place your feet in the hole in the middle for you to place your feet.
Many of the service staff speaks Mandarin and very little English. However, they do have English menu for tourist. They serve a variety of meat but a wider variety of beef parts. We ordered a sharing platter as well as additional pork and chicken for me.
The beverage that goes best for barbeque meat will be ice-cold beer.
This is the sharing platter with both beef, chicken and pork as well as a few pieces of vegetables. This platter is considered huge for the locals as they do not eat much during dinner. For Singaporean, this is just the starter, my colleagues loved the beef tongue and it is apparently very tender and juicy.
I had the smaller plates of pork loin and bacon slices.
The entire affair was very smokey and our table was smoking away as we threw on every piece of meat on the grill. In comparison to the locals who grilled their meat piece by piece, we were too hungry to wait.
The service was very prompt and they will change the grill plate once there is too much smoke. Overall, the meat is all of very good quality and there is not much seasoning so you can taste the original taste of the meat. I ordered the miso paste pork slice and it was extremely good but a little on the salty side. The restaurant do provide condiments on the side which is the barbeque sauce, lemon juice, salt and pepper. I have never seen the lemon juice provided and it was such a good complement to the grilled meats. The lemon actually took out the extra grease from the meat and gave the meat a very good balance. The meal costs us about 12,000 Yen which is close to SGD 150 for 4 person.
