When Yang Ming Seafood opened its outlet at VivoCity, I was attracted by the decor of the restaurant, as it mimicked the look of a traditional Malay Kelong
With a small boat, fish nets and a wooden bridge crossing an LED screen of the sea and fish, the restaurant aims to transport diners into a kelong
The kelong concept is extended into the interior of the restaurant, where walls were decorated to look like houses of the fishermen who stayed in kelongs. The restaurant was huge with many tables to accommodate many customers. They even had 4 private rooms with a minimum spend to accommodate guests who want privacy

We started off with a simple appetiser, which is the cold tofu with century egg. They were very generous with the century egg, as it looks like an entire egg given to a small piece of tofu. For century egg lovers, this was great, but it could get overwhelming as the century egg overpowers the tofu

Next, we had the Hong Kong-style steamed soy sauce baby squid, which was served piping hot from the kitchen. The squid was sweet and crunchy and cooked perfectly without being rubbery. The sauce used was similar to Cantonese steamed fish sauce, so it was savoury and slightly sweet, which complemented the squid well
Next was the signature dish of the restaurant, pig stomach chicken soup, which has to be pre-ordered during reservations. It has an entire pig stomach with chicken meat inside and can serve up to 6 people or more. The staff showed us the soup before proceeding to cut the stomach and chicken for us. The soup had a strong peppery flavour, so there was no weird taste to the pig stomach, and as it was cut thinly by the staff, it was tender and soft to eat. There was a light hint of herbal taste to the soup, but it was mostly covered by the strong pepper flavours. This soup would be perfect for cold days to warm the body and stomach

Next were the milky pork ribs, which were recommended by the staff, and it was the dish I liked the least. The sauce was slightly creamy and tangy, like a lemony cream sauce, which I felt did not go that well with the pork ribs. The meat was also not very soft, so not ideal for the elderly

Another signature dish was the special ginger kampung chicken, which was a favourite dish for the meal as the chicken meat was tender and succulent, but still had a nice light char on the skin, which gives off a nice gingery flavour. The ginger in the sauce also provided an additional depth of flavour to the chicken, which was savoury with a spicy kick

For our carbs, we ordered the burnt bee hoon, which is also known as 3rd floor bee hoon, and by this point, we were quite full, so we only had a small tasting before packing the rest. The beehoon has a great char at the surface, which makes eating it like enjoying the burnt rice bits of claypot rice. The lime and shredded cabbage gave the otherwise oily noodles a refreshing and tangy crunch. It was something I did not mind in terms of flavour, as I could taste the nice wok hei
Overall, the food was quite good and the environment spacious and comfortable for both family and friends’ meal gatherings. You can find the menu here with the full price stated. The food was served at a pretty good pace, and the staff were also attentive and friendly. I like how the menu has a wide range of prices for different customer groups to enjoy a meal here
