I chanced upon this place for lunch as I was having a course somewhere near. Noting the large lunch crowd, I concluded that the food here must be pretty good and decided to settle my lunch here.
The shop was in warm colour and decorated in a modern cafeteria style with both indoor and outdoor seating. There is no air-conditioning for both indoor and outdoor seats but it was not hot as there were sufficient fans around the shop. The shop is very crowded during meal times and can run out of tables.
The menu is very extensive with their main being the Bak Kut Teh, many other stir fry dishes and side dishes. Prices range between S$5.00 to S$20.
There are also a few awards framed by the wall as well as reviews from local newspapers and pictures of celebrities.
Due to the short lunchtime I had, I ordered the seafood white beehoon instead of their famous bak kut teh. The thing that set it aside from the competition is that they added salted egg yolk toppings to the dish. The dish cost about S$11. The bee hoon was well simmered and is very soft and flavourful as you can taste the gravy from the bee hoon itself.
The serving of seafood is very generous and the ingredients are very fresh. The salted egg yolk toppings added a very interesting savoury taste to the dish and I quite like this addition.
This is a pretty short review but I would say this place has good food and I would definitely go back and try the Bak Kut Teh and in fact some of the other dishes. I subsequently found out that this shop has been famous for many years and many customers drive there just to eat. For someone staying in the West side, this place is new to me but I am glad I chanced upon it.
