G Izakaya

The ads for G Izakaya kept popping up in my feed showing their 1 for 1 omakase offer enticed me to visit them. I made a booking online but was told they were fully booked so I shifted my date to much later and managed to grab a lunch slot

Located in Golden Mile Tower, the restaurant is at ground level and can be easily found. The main entrance of the restaurant is outside the mall which is towards the left side of the drop-off point of the building itself. Decorated in a typical Japanese restaurant manner, the restaurant takes up 2 units; one with the sushi counter for omakase dining and the other side for regular diners

The Omakase dining area is quite spacious with enough seats for 10 patrons at any seating. Both sides of the restaurant share the same hot kitchen which is located at the back

The 1 for-1 Omakase offer priced at SGD 168 ( before tax) came with a choice of sake or beer and I chose sake which was served in a pretty glass bottle kept chilled in a bowl of ice

We started the course with water eggplant which was beautifully plated and served with a drop of concentrated sauce thus called water eggplant. The flavour was refreshing and light which is a good start to the meal. Subsequently, we were served snow crab chawanmushi topped with uni, grilled fish with cheese and a side of asparagus, oyster with lotus root stem, ponzu jelly and seaweed. Most of these dishes were nice and refreshing with light yet umami flavours

The next few courses were all sushi which included; seabream, bluefin tuna, Chutoro, Otoro, scallop with lime zest and uni and Ikura handroll spray with golden dust. The seabream and scallops were delicious and fresh and crunchy to the bite. I found the trio of tuna sushi slightly disappointing as they were not fatty enough and did not melt in the mouth. The handroll was over the top with the gold dust sprinkling but it was delicious as the uni was fresh and creamy while the Ikura was packed with umami flavours

Lastly, we ended the meal with a miso soup and dessert which included a scoop of sesame ice cream on a waffle and a cheesecake

Overall, for the price of SGD 168 for 2 people, it is quite a value for money especially when it comes with a huge bottle of sake. The sake was very smooth and easy to drink while enjoying the meal. The dishes were well thought out with some interesting ingredients used and tasted good. The only disappointing factor for me was the tuna as I do have high standards for my tuna sushi after being spoilt in Japan
