Bowl Chap

Nestled within the busy One North concrete jungle, Bowl Chap is a modern eatery featuring Japanese Inspired Fusion rice bowls with a Singaporean twist. Originally located at Ayer Rajah Crescent, Bowl Chap has since shifted to the Galaxis building within the Fusionopolic cluster of buildings

Sandwiches between a row of cafes and eateries, Bowl Chap gets very crowded during meal times and it is very difficult to get a table

Unlike the previous location, they have a dedicated seating area which is quite limited to only approximately 20 people at any one time. As the rice bowls are pretty convenient to eat, they do receive many pre-bookings for delivery to offices

One of their signature bowls is the 12 hours braised five-spice apple pork bowl which is a very popular item amongst their customers

As I felt like getting a vegetarian meal that day, I ordered the Miso Glazed Tofu Bowl and added SGD 3 to make it a meal with drinks and a side dish. For the side dish, I got the Handmade Vegetarian Falafel. Each rice bowl also comes served with miso soup to help wash down the meal. My tofu bowl came with pumpkin, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes and glazed tofu on top of Japanese short-grain rice. Peppered with black and white sesame seeds, the tofu was perfectly seasoned with miso leaving a layer of soy flavour which further brings out the sweetness of the tofu. The falafel balls were also well fried with an extremely bite and flavour

My colleague ordered another popular dish which is the Aburi Tonkatsu Mayo Chicken Karaage Bowl which was served with a perfectly poached onsen egg. The fried chicken was drizzled with a layer of aburi tonkatsu mayonnaise and had loads of shredded seaweed to add an additional layer of umami flavour. The chicken was fried till crispy but the inside was slightly dry but overall the bowl was still quite delicious

Overall, the meals were quite nice in flavour although the price is on the mid-high end for lunch but given the quality of the food served, it is worth a splurge every now and then. I would not mind visiting again to try their 12-hour braised five-spice apple pork bowl
