If you are a meat lover, this is the right place for you. 8 Korean BBQ is very popular amongst the working crowd and young people for their very affordable meal sets and happy hour alcohol promotions.
With 2 outlets, the main outlet at The Central is still one of the more popular one with loads of customers coming for dinner and drinks. The outlet is spacious with many seats and a warm atmosphere.
The restaurant is famous for their meats which are marinated in 8 different kinds of spices and sauces. The most popular set is the 8 colors set at SGD 98 where you get 8 slabs of meat. You can either take all 8 flavours; wine, original, garlic, herb, curry, miso, red pepper paste and kalbi. The set also comes with free top up of beans sprout and kimchi as well as a pot of stew.
The stove setup is slightly different from most of the Korean barbeque restaurants so instead of a round stove in the middle, there is a flat square stove at the angle so that the extra oil will be removed through the hole in the table.
The restaurant will also serve the usual banchan side dishes with an unlimited refill.
There are also lettuce provided for customers to wrap their meat in the Korean style.
The meat is served nicely rolled up in 8 different dishes. The cut of the meat is also very premium, thick and fresh.
The first thing which is placed on the stove is the kimchi cabbage as well as the kimchi bean sprouts. When roasted, the kimchi vegetables gives off a nice smoky flavour and adds to the nice kimchi taste.
The service here is fantastic as the staff will help you to barbeque the meat and they will even put on a waxed paper covering the meat so that while it cooks, the oil will not be splattered onto your clothes.
The meat is barbequed till perfect where it is not black and the meat is still slightly juicy and yet crispy on the outside. Personally, I can’t tell the difference between the flavours as I enjoy my meat with a vegetable wrap and soy bean paste so everything taste similar.
The pot of stew provided was a shallow pot but could fill about 8 – 9 bowls, there was only 1 prawn and many squid, clams and mussels. The soup was a bit flat and would have been better if the kimchi taste was stronger.
We ordered the kimchi pancake as an add on at SGD 20 and this was totally worth it. It is one of the best kimchi pancake I ever had as the surface was crispy and fragrant while the inside was still soft and moist with strong kimchi flavours.
Overall, 8 Korean bbq is one restaurant that provided great service, good premium meat cuts and most importantly at a very affordable price tag. You can eat to your heart’s content and still not burn a hole in your pocket. I will definitely come back to satisfy any meat cravings.
