Once in a while we like to push our limits and go for an adventurous trip and this time we headed to Mount Bromo for a rough it out kind of trip. Our first meal in Surabaya was at this restaurant serving Indonesian Chinese food
The restaurant was dressed in a traditional Indonesian wood architecture with a seemingly Chinese logo.
The place was empty and we were the only customers. Basically the menu signboards reminds me of the typical Chinese take out.
The entire restaurant was pretty dim and felt more like a cafeteria.
The stereo typical red leather bound menu for Chinese cuisine.
Surprisingly, the food served here is not all Chinese but with delightslike satay which was quite tough for me.
The kailan was stir fried with oyster sauce and small shrimp. This dish was slightly overcooked
Next was the Indonesian grilled chicken which was extremely dry.
We ordered the tahu goreng thinking it’s the same as the one in Singapore but it ended up to be just fried beancurd. The beancurd was well fried witha soft inside.
In my opinion, this was the best dish, fried bean sprout with crispy fish. The bean sprouts were still crunchy and the fish added an additional flavour and crunch to it.
Overall, the restaurant serves mediocre food at exorbitant prices. The meal costs us SGD 40 plus which is extremely high for Indonesian standards.
