Grand Harbour

Even though there are plenty of choices when it comes to cuisine in Kuala Lumpur, we were really feeling like having dim sum before ending our trip and heading back to Singapore

I decided to try out Grand Harbour since I did not get to bring my parents here on the last trip, and since it was just a stone’s throw away from my hotel, we tried to just walk in for a table

As we visited on Sunday, the restaurant was packed with customers, some were waiting for tables as they came in big groups of family and friends. The restaurant is relatively spacious and could accommodate many groups of customers, but they were all fully packed

We ordered some of the steamed dim sum, like shrimp dumplings and seafood beancurd roll, and since we did not have char siew during this trip, we ordered a plate which was so beautifully charred with a balance of lean and fatty meat. The steamed dim sum was decent with generous ingredients and fillings, while the char siew had great caramelisation and a great balance between sweet and savoury

I preferred the fried dim sum items compared to the steamed ones. We had the steamed rice roll wrapped around crispy fritters and prawns, fried crispy yam dumplings, egg tarts and pan-fried carrot cake. These items were all quite nice, with my favourite being the steamed rice roll around fritters and prawns. The texture of the smooth roll and fritter was addictive, and the sauce gave it enough savoury flavour. The egg tarts and carrot cake were standard with all dim sum restaurants, with very safe flavours. The yam dumpling was pretty good as the savoury filling was packed with ingredients, and the ratio of yam to filling was just nice for you to taste both the yam and the meat filling together

Overall, Grand Harbour has decent dim sum with a spacious and comfortable environment. The service was ok, but the serving of dishes tends to be slower during peak periods, and it might not be easy to get a table during holidays or non-working days. The price of the dim sum is also relatively affordable, so you can enjoy a meal here without breaking the bank
