After 13 years, I finally got to visit Beijing again, and I remember fond memories staying near Wangfujing, so I decided to look for an affordable accommodation in the same area

I couldn’t find the previous hotel I stayed at, which was a stone’s throw from the main Wangfujing street, so the nearest I could find was the Park Plaza Beijing, which was just next to the Regent Hotel. Located in a neighbourhood which was away from the main tourist area, it was peaceful and quiet and very safe to walk around, as there was a small mall with a supermarket as well as restaurants and coffee shops
The lobby is huge as it shares space with retail shops, the restaurant, coffee lounge and bar and is also connected to an exit which is a minute walk away from one of the subway station entrances and exits. The concierge counter is right at the door to help with any deliveries and directions, and there were also 2 delivery robots sending items right to the doorstep. The check-in process was quick and efficient, and also very friendly in helping us with our queries

The hotel was bright and well maintained from the corridors, despite being a 20-year-old hotel
The rooms were quite large and had the usual business office look and decor, muted colours, carpet and furnishings. The bed were a nice super single size with a spacious sitting area and working area. There was also more than sufficient space to store our 2 large suitcases near the front of the room. The hotel also provided the usual bathrobe, safe, ironing board with iron, umbrella and laundry cleaning. The beds were firm and gave pretty good support, and the pillows were also neither too soft nor too hard, which enabled some good night’s rest
The size of the bathroom was relatively smaller compared to the room size. There is a full-sized bathtub with the shower within the tub, so you have to climb into the tub for the shower, and the toilet, which is just next to the tub. Tall people might find this arrangement restrictive, and also, there was no support to climb into the tub with the toilet blocking half of the tub. Other amenities like shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, hair dryer, weighing scale, toothbrush and paste were all provided. The shower was also hot enough throughout the day, with good water pressure
Overall, it was a very comfortable stay at Park Plaza Hotel, and while I loved how peaceful and calm the neighbourhood was at night, I would have liked to stay closer to the shopping street. The real walking time from Park Plaza to the main Wangfujing street was close to 15 minutes for me, who was walking relatively slowly, 10 if you walk fast. This journey becomes harder when it is cold or when you are carrying loads of shopping. The easier route to return will be to exit from the subway exit nearer to the hotel, which is not on the main line, so some exchange is needed. Other than this walking pain for me, the hotel is quite a great place to stay to explore Beijing
