Zenith Cameron

The last time I visited Cameron Highlands, I stayed in one of the old English-styled houses and the rate per night was pretty expensive. This time, I wanted to go for a more modern and new hotel and was surprised to find Zenith Cameron

Located in Tanah Rata, the hotel was built in 2021 and is only 90 metres from the city centre which is full of dining options and some small shopping area

The hotel was perched on a small hilltop with a grand drop-off area. The lobby is spacious, brightly lit and well-maintained. You can tell that the hotel is fairly new as the lift lobby and common areas have a shiny new finish. The check-in process was quick and it took at most 10 minutes to check in 2 rooms. There was a small counter where you could get a welcome drink while you waited for service. We also got the staff to deliver our luggage directly to our room which came 5 mins after we reached our rooms

At an overall glance, the room was clean, new and extremely spacious with 2 twin beds, a desk area and an armchair for lounging. We had a room with a connecting door so it is possible for families or big groups to request connecting rooms. The furnishings within the room are well maintained and the beds and pillow were not too soft with sufficient back support. The toilet and bathroom are separated which is a feature I really like as the toilet can still be used if one guest is using the shower. The wash basin is located out of the shower and toilet and basic amenities like shower gel and toothbrush are provided. Although the overall cleanliness of the toilet and shower is fine, I found some small areas which are lacking maintenance like the mouldy crevices between the bathtub and tiles and the toilet seat. Although it does not affect the usage, it is not as pleasant to the sight

The hotel also has quite a few facilities like a small gym facing the swimming pool, the full-length pool with a great view of the mountains, conference meeting rooms as well as a coffee house for guests to get a drink and desserts in the afternoon

Breakfast was provided with our booking and is available on the first floor right next to the reception lobby. You can also get steamboat lunch and dinner at the restaurant after the breakfast service has ended. The breakfast buffet has quite a huge variety from local delights, western favourites as well as some Chinese dim sum. The standard and taste of the food were mediocre but if you are not picky about food, they are pretty alright. Some of the local delights like curry, fried noodles, and fried eggs were not too bad. Most importantly, the view of the restaurant was good with a calming view of the mountains and the natural cooling fresh air from the open patio

Overall, I would still recommend this hotel as they are fairly new plus most parts of the hotel are well maintained and the service staff are all polite, helpful and friendly. I actually got a good night’s rest in the room and the breakfast was still a nice addition as you can take it slow and not search for breakfast in the morning. The area is nice as it is within walking distance of restaurants, pharmacies, coffee houses and a night market. Although I found some mouldy crevices which is common even in some of our old houses, the bathroom and toilet are still kept very clean so I think it doesn’t really affect the stay
