Coincidently, 2 of my lunches within the same week revolve around pig organs and this time round my friend brought me to this famous Kway Chap store in Macpherson which has been in operation for 50 years. Nestled along a short row of shophouses, Quan Lai is one of the prominent food stalls at the corner coffeeshop and is bustling with customers, especially during mealtimes

Quan Lai Kway Chap sells a variety of items like braised duck rice, porridge as well as braised pork belly and innards with kway chap.

The braised duck and pork meat were very tender and succulent and most importantly the thick and deeply flavoured gravy was bursting with umami happiness. Most of the pig innards were braised for a long period and you can taste the flavour of the sauce as you bite into them. I like the fact that the sauce was not too heavy on five spice taste which is very obvious in some braised meat dishes.

The star of the meal is definitely the fried pig intestines which are fried till crispy and crunchy on the outside and still soft and juicy inside. The intestines were well washed and there was no unclean taste of the innards. To me, this is a must-order when you visit and definitely stands out more than the other dishes.

The stall also has pretty decent salted vegetables as it is not overly salty and the mustard vegetables are pickled till soft and tender.

The kway chap which is rice vermicelli flattened pieces resembles hor fun and is very smooth and light. The thickness of the kway is just nice and is paired with the light soup which is flavoured with gravy. Those who do not like to eat kway chap can also opt for plain rice or yam rice.
Overall, I think they serve pretty decent kway chap with good standard braised duck and meat, especially the fried intestines. I would probably visit them because of the fried intestines but they are more expensive than other kway chap stalls one good point is they are open till 3am so if you are craving kway chap in the middle of the night, this is the place to go.
