Howard Johnson Ginza Plaza

While researching hotels to stay in Xian, our tour agency recommended us to stay at the Howard Johnson Ginza Plaza. Sceptical with hotel recommended by agencies, we decided to read up on the hotel and found very good reviews and the room rates were equally competitive so we decided to book our last night stay here.

For locals, the hotel is known as Jin Hua Hao Sheng International Hotel instead of Howard Johnson so if you intend to take a taxi, it is recommended to bring along a hotel card with their address.

The main hotel lobby is huge with seating areas and retail shops. There is also a beautiful KOI pond which is pretty nice to look at while chilling at the lobby.

The check-in counter is also very spacious with many counters and staff to process your check-in. The process itself is quite fast and the staff is also friendly and helpful. The hotel accepts all International Visa and Mastercard credit cards so there is no worry about cash.

The corridors are long, wide and also circular with good distance between room doors for privacy.

The room we booked was a business double but it is definitely considered huge in size compared to the usual double rooms. The twin beds are as big as a small double bed and there is also a spacious living space area with a Chinese classic looking sofa and coffee table. The bed support is ok for me but the pillows are too soft and flat for me.

There is also a working desk and a dressing table with a huge mirror for guest to groom themselves before heading out. There are a nice bar counter and bar fridge space just next to the wardrobe.

The bathroom is mid-sized with a full-sized bathtub and a showerhead within the bathtub space. This is not my favourite arrangement since I have to step into the bathtub for a shower. The showerhead is also fixed and not adjustable. There is a basic hair dryer fixed to the wall which is slightly weak in heat.

Plenty of bath amenities are provided as well as the usual hand, face and bath towels.

The key highlight of our room was the view. This was to die for as we could see the entire city wall right from our hotel room. As the hotel is walking distance from the South wall and gate, we can see the grand view of the ancient site in the day and night. The night view was absolutely gorgeous and there were many times I just sat next to the window taking in the sights.

Overall, this hotel is a gem and I absolutely loved it for the close proximity to everything you need to see in Xian city. The South Gate ( Yongning Gate ) is only 370 meters, approximately 10 mins walk away. The city wall itself is just 2 mins walk from the hotel although you can only enter the wall from the south gate. The shopping malls are only 10 mins walk away and there are many restaurants, street food, convenience store and drinking pubs just 5 mins walk away. While the decor of the hotel is somewhat dated, it was maintained quite well and the stay is still very comfortable. If you are visiting Xian, I definitely recommend staying here.

Room rates start from SGD 76 per night
