Ramen is a fuss free and absolutely satisfying choice for a meal. With so many ramen restaurants offering ramen from different regions, its not easy to find one that is friendly to the pocket and fantastic for the tummy
Tucked away in Bedok Mall is So Ramen that serves rather authentic ramen to the Bedok neighbourhood
The restaurants has a Japanese zen atmosphere with a lighted wall interior looking like bamboo and simple wood furnishings. They have a semi open kitchen concept where you can see the chef making your noodles
The menu has a few category of broth to choose from; mainly pork broth , fish & pork broth, miso broth , shoyu broth as well as spicy selections. The price ranges from SGD 7.90 to SGD 13
The ramen serving is very decent and sufficient for an adult. My pork & fish broth ramen selection had an extra poached egg on top of the onsen egg. There were very generous servings of green spring onions which added a subtle spiciness to the soup. The chashu was nicely flavoured and tender and not too thin and the noodles were springy to the bite. There were also huge chunks of bamboo shoots which I love with my ramen. Now to the soup which is the soul of ramen; the flavours were very deep and the consistency was very thick. You can almost taste the hours spent boiling the soup to this consistency. It was pure natural unami flavours since I finished the whole bowl of soup but was not thirsty at all
There are also various side dishes for sharing and the gyoza in particular was crispy and juicy although they were quite tiny in size.
Overall, this restaurant surprised me with a wallet friendly offering yet thumb worthy bowl of ramen. They should open more outlets.
