XW Western Grill – Changi Airport T2

I literally chanced upon this restaurant as I was looking for the Japanese foodcourt in Changi Airport T2 when I realised that the whole Japanese foodcourt had closed down

Located on the 2nd floor of the departure halls of Changi Airport Terminal 2, the restaurant is open to the public as it is within the public areas of the terminal. There are escalators reaching the restaurant from the check-in counters but if you have luggage like me, you have to take the staff lifts to reach level 2. With no other food options in sight, I was extremely hungry from my flight and decided to settle for a meal here

The menu is quite family-friendly as there are a variety of options for children and adults from steaks, pasta, and burgers to baked rice

The restaurant belongs to the main group of Minor Food which has sister brands like Poulet, Sanook Kitchen, Thai Express and more. The airport outlet is very spacious with a grunge industrial-themed decoration

Any order of their main dishes will entitle diners to the all-you-can-eat salad bar which has quite a great variety of side dishes like; coleslaw, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, boiled vegetables, fresh salads and fruits

I personally really liked the mashed potatoes as it was creamy and smooth with a nice buttery flavour, the fried onion rings which were kept warm and crispy as well as the sauteed mushrooms and coleslaw. I was surprised that the quality of the sides was quite good for a eat all you can salad bar and I actually had 2nd helpings for these items as they were really delicious

For mains, me and my nephew both ordered chicken chop but one plate was a combo which had an addition of sausages. I also upgraded one of the meals to a set which came with a drink and soup of the day. The base dish was served with french fries and a choice of pepper or brown sauce. The soup included in the set was pretty decent with a nice mushroom flavour and creamy and smooth consistency. The chicken chop itself was medium in size and well grilled with a light charred flavour and still retaining the juiciness of the meat, The sausage was pretty mediocre

Overall, for the price of less than SGD 15 for their main and paired with the salad bar, this restaurant offers value-for-money meals. The environment is also comfortable and great for kids and families or students looking for an affordable and filling meal. The quality of the main dish and the salad bar is considered good for their price point
