It is not easy to find authentic Vietnamese food in Singapore and there is a huge charm to a simple bowl of pipping hot Pho. I have to say I have yet to find a place that makes me feel like I’m in Vietnam
I chanced upon Pho street while having lunch one day and as I was craving some fresh spring rolls, I decided to give it a try. The outlet at Bedok Mall is kind of like a small open concept outlet then a full-blown restaurant. Seating is quite limited to 15 tables.
Order and collection are self-serviced although the staff do bring you your food if they are not short-handed. You can also help yourself with the utensils and condiments
They have the standard beef pho and side dishes as well as some dry noodle dish
Firstly, the beef pho my friend ordered had nice tender slices of beef but the soup was of a lighter taste. The serving was also not too big so it might not be enough for big eaters
The roast pork dry noodles have a light tangy flavour with poached rice vermicelli noodles. The noodles were topped with very flavourful roast pork, carrots, bean sprouts as well as a fried crispy roll. Personally, I had to add 2 wedges of lime to add more flavours to the noodles
The crab cake was well fried but in terms of taste-wise, there is nothing too spectacular or different
The fresh spring roll has shrimp, rice vermicelli and loads of lettuce. The skin was slightly chewy and not soft like the ones in Vietnam and the flavours still a bit lacking
Overall, the items served at Pho street is quite general and slightly lacking the real Vietnam flavours. The lunch sets are however quite affordable so if you are not too picky about food, you can try them out
