The Modern Izakaya

The Modern Izakaya is a casual Japanese dining destination styled after the Izakaya bars of Tokyo, Japan. The restaurant boosts a chill atmosphere, offering a selection of sake, beer and Japanese cuisine. For people working around the area and looking for some after work happy hours, Izakaya offers a nice atmosphere with delicious food.

The restaurant is not too big with a few external high tables and 5-6 internal table and seats. The entire restaurant is open air with some air conditioning ventilation indoors.

They serve quite a variety of Japanese alcohol and sake as they are quite popular with the Japanese working crowd around the area.

During happy hours, they have 1 for 1 beer promotions as well.

They have a good variety of Yakitori items which are nicely salted to go with beer or alcohol.

They also have very interesting items like this corn popcorn which is corn mixed with breadcrumbs and fried till crispy. The ball itself is crispy on the outside but quite soft and creamy inside.

This barbeque squid with roe is extremely addictive as it is chewy and salty at the same time with a nice creamy texture of the roe and mayonnaise. This is perfect as a happy hour snack.

Some of the other dishes I ordered which were very good as light snacks. The restaurant also serves sashimi and other rice and teppanyaki dishes.

Overall, the atmosphere is simple and casual for chilling out with colleagues and friends. It is not a full fledged Japanese restaurant but there were good enough dishes that can fill your stomach. The main idea here is to chill on alcohol with their happy hour deals as well as snacks perfect for that glass of beer.
