What is the best meal selection when the weather is cold, windy and rainy? Yes, hotpot! What if you are in London? No worries there’s always the famous Chinatown in London. We did a google search and was surprised to find a couple of hotpot all you can buffet restaurants all within Chinatown itself along Gerrard Street. There was good reviews for Joy Luck Restaurant so we came here to try.
There are at least 3-4 restaurants on the same street offering both a la carte hotpot and eat all you can buffet. The Joy Luck restaurant offers their buffet at £24.90 with a wide variety of ingredients.
There are 2 floors to the restaurant with approximately 7 to 8 tables on both floors.
There is a choice of 4 to 5 soup bases and we chose the tomato and pig stomach pepper soup. There are premium items on the menu where you can pay an extra to order.
They have a wide variety of meats, ready made balls, vegetables, seafood, noodles and mushrooms. All the ingredients are very fresh and freshly plated when you put in the order.
They have cooked items like meat dumplings to eat while waiting for the items to cook. The dumplings are very good and juicy but the skin slightly thicker than I would have liked but we still ordered 2 plates.
The pepper soup was extremely flavourful and nice but the tomato soup is slightly bland. We subsequently realised the soup refill is just water from the tap thus making the soup very bland towards the end.
Overall, the service is good and the staff is very attentive and ingredients are fresh and nice. We were glad to see that unfinished ingredients were not kept and re-served and thrown away so everything is very hygienic.
