I seldom wake up for brunch on weekends since I usually sleep in and settle for lunch at home. On the rare occasion of meeting my friend, who was in town for brunch, we visited Alani at KADA for their Greek, Mediterranean brunch

Located within KADA, which is a heritage building by nature and a cultural hub by re-marketing, the building houses coffee, art, and the community all in one place. Nostalgic and chic all at once, this is one of the newest hip places in town
Located on the top floor of KADA, you can take Singapore’s oldest operating electric lift to reach Alani. The cafe occupies both the indoor and outdoor rooftop areas, with ample greenery planted everywhere to beautify the rooftop space. There were limited tables inside, which were air-conditioned, but we managed to get one by calling in advance for a reserved spot
They also sold freshly baked bread, cakes and other sweet pastries at the outside counter where the cashier is located. You can choose and pick from the wooden display crates of what is available on the day

For a start, we had the toasted signature bread with brown butter, olive oil, and homemade marmalade and sea salt at SGD 16. The bread was nice and dense, which I liked dipping in the olive oil and brown butter more than the marmalade

Next, we had the chicken stuffing with sourdough bread, chicken jus, poached eggs and crudities at SGD 25. I quite liked this dish as there was a nice balance between protein and vegetables. Topped with a vibrant mountain of fresh, crisp watercress salad mix and shaved carrot ribbons, there was a fresh crunch in each bite of flavorful, juicy, slow-roasted hand-pulled chicken and soft sourdough bread. Soaked with the rich, savoury chicken jus and runny poached egg, the sourdough bread was packed with an explosion of flavours

Next, we ordered the fermented pumpkin pesto and wagyu beef sourdough at SGD 18, which I did not eat since there was beef in the bread. My friends did say this was quite delicious, as the meat was tender and soft while the sauce was creamy and indulgent. This was quite filling, as the overall combination can be a little on the greasy side

Since I was not having the beef bread, I ordered the Ladenia with sunny-side-up, crispy glazed bacon, rich tomato sauce, crumbled feta cheese, and fresh greens. The bacon was extremely crispy but too burnt for my liking. The rest of the bread was generally ok with no exceptional surprise, as a combination of runny egg with tomato sauce and feta cheese definitely makes a good combo
Overall, the food at Alani was pretty nice, and the entire space did give off a nice Mediterranean vibe. The food is not too pricey, and most of the dishes were delicious and hearty, giving good value for the price. Since tables are limited and the place is extremely popular, it is difficult to chill there for longer periods
