In my recent business trip, I got to stay in a new district at the Artyzen New Bund 31 Hotel. The hotel is 30 minutes away from the city centre ( The Bund) and 40 minutes from the airport
Located just next to the Bank of Communications NEW BUND 31 Performing Arts Centre, the hotel is directly connected to the performing arts venue’s grand theatre and black box spaces. It is a few minutes’ walk from Taikoo Li Qiantan, NYU Shanghai, and the Oriental Sports Centre metro station
The concierge and a lobby waiting space are located on the ground floor
The main reception and check-in are located at level 5 of the building, which is also the same floor as the restaurant, bar and lounge. The hotel design concept revolves around custom wooden furnishings, textured paints, and striking metal accents. There are 3 check-in counters, but with only 2 staff, the check-in process was considerably quick and hassle-free
They gave me a free upgrade to the corner room, which was bigger than other rooms. The corridors were brightly lit with warm tones, and everything looked fairly new. The corner rooms were separated from the main corridor in a small enclave, so if you have a 2-room booking, it would be your personal area
I’m usually not a fan of corner rooms, but since they offered me the room very early at 9am and I really wanted to rest, I decided to take the room. The door opens to a desk space and the wardrobe. As you go further into the room, the bed takes the centre space, and the corner room offers a right-angle floor-to-ceiling window view
The room has a king-sized bed, which has reasonably good support with 4 fluffy pillows, but they did not give me much support, so I slept on 2 stacked pillows. The pillows were of good quality, but I needed more support, so I felt it was more of a personal preference. At the far left of the room was a lounging sofa and the drinks counter, which had the bar fridge hidden in the pull drawer. Bottled water and a Nespresso coffee machine were also provided
The toilet was in a separate room from the bathroom, and there was the vanity area where the sink and multiple mirrors are located. You can also find the Dyson hairdryer and big fluffy towels here. The bathroom was on the left of the vanity area and had a standing shower with a rain shower and a bathtub. Bathrobes and additional bath towels were also provided here. The water temperature was perfect, and the pressure was also strong for a good shower
Last but not least, the breakfast provided at the hotel was continental and local, with dishes like fried noodles, rice, soup noodles, porridge, fried fritters with soy milk, as well as fried bacon, baked beans, fried eggs, toast and pastries, cereals, milk, cold cuts, fruits and desserts. I did not take many pictures at breakfast as it was my business trip and it was always a rush in the mornings. Generally, the food was ok in flavour, but I did not have the luxury to spend more time at the breakfast place
Overall, the hotel stay was pleasant with very new furnishings and amenities. The service standards were also good and prompt. As a business hotel, it meets all the required amenities and facilities. For tourists, it might not be the best location, but taking a train to downtown is about 15 minutes away, which is also not extremely far
