It is almost a sin for any traveller visiting Japan not to have at least 1 meal of sushi. Even for those who do not eat raw fish, there are many options for cooked sushi

Since my schedule during this trip was tight, I could only search for food places around my workplace and fit in a meal after some late-night shopping. Staying in the Shinjuku area, I had plenty of choices. Numazuko is a popular chain restaurant offering conveyor belt sushi
Highly popular with foreign tourists and local workers, the chain restaurant offers a great variety of sushi at affordable prices. Similar to most conveyor belt sushi restaurants, the moment you enter, you will see the centre sushi counter with the chefs hard at work churning out more sushi to place on the moving belt. We visited late at 10 pm, and the restaurant was still packed
I tend to challenge the conveyor belt sushi restaurants by getting some of these items, like the uni sushi, to see if the quality of their seafood matches the prices of the items. Surprisingly, while the uni is not the sweetest, it was fresh without the metallic taste. They also had a few interesting items, like the raw bonito, which was very fresh and springy
Something I have not tried before in Singapore was the raw octopus, which was available as sushi here. It was tender and crunchy at the same time, which was a nice sushi choice. What was really nice about this restaurant was the size of each sushi being perfect, so there was not too much rice to overwhelm the fish. Here, the fish takes centre stage with the rice in a supporting role
Overall, we enjoyed the sushi here at Kaiten Sushi Numazuko as the food was affordable with a great variety, and it is generally tourist-friendly with an English menu and staff who could speak English quite well. While it is not comparable to Omakase restaurants, it is a good venue for a quick fix of sushi. Prices start from 90 yen to over 1000 yen
