Tsui Hiang Yuan – Serangoon Gardens Country Club

I tend to explore for food places around my area and not travel out to other parts of Singapore when it comes to Chinese food, and this is especially true when I need to bring my parents along, since mobility is an issue

However, when I first saw the reel for this restaurant, I was so tempted by the dishes that I decided to brave the travel and bring my mum for a meal. Located in the Serangoon Garden Country Club, the restaurant has been open since 2023 and is open to both members and the public

Offering Cantonese and Teochew cuisine, the restaurant is pretty popular amongst families during weekends due to its spacious layout and multiple promotions on its signature dishes

We ordered some dim sum to try their chef’s cooking, and some of the standard items are the century egg with pork congee, custard steamed buns, prawn dumplings and siu mai. The quality of the dim sums is quite good, and the flavours are also balanced. The piggy buns were cute, and the custard consistently was nice and runny

One of the main items we came for was the Peking duck at a promotional price of SGD 58 ( original price of 98). Like other Peking ducks, we were served the duck in 2 ways: the skin with a bit of meat and the duck either stir-fried or just by itself. We chose to have the duck by itself since we prefer the original roasted flavours to black pepper. We also told the servers not to chop the duck legs, and they gave us 2 perfect legs with the skin intact. The duck was perfectly roasted with crispy skin and juicy meat, and the leg was just wonderful as the umami juices flowed with each bite

The next item, which made me willingly travel across the island, was this seafood soup at a promotional price of SGD38 ( original price of 68). The broth was thick and creamy with strong umami flavours as it was boiled with scallops, fish maw and other seafood for a long time. The servings of ingredients were very generous, and the flavours were extremely on point, with a nice texture crunch from the bean sprouts

Last but not least, we also ordered the Teochew cold crab at a promotional price of SGD 55 ( originally priced at the market rate by weight). The crab meat was naturally sweet and soft, whereas the roe had a crusty texture since it was frozen. It was my first time having Teochew cold crab, and while it was quite tasty, there was very little meat

Overall, they do serve good Cantonese and Teochew cuisine, and the servings are generally large and generous, which is great for family gatherings and meals. The dishes on promotional price were also great and a value for money
