I am quite a fan of Sukiyaki, and I was looking for affordable Sukiyaki restaurants in Kyoto when Tajimaya popped up as a local favourite
Located on the 7th floor of Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Kyoto, Tajimaya offers a pretty affordable eat-all-you-can menu with Kobe beef and other meats starting at 8,580 Yen. The all-you-can-eat buffet has a time limit of 90 minutes and includes drinks, vegetables, noodles and a selection of meat options. The restaurant is extremely popular, so it is recommended to get a reservation for lunch or dinner

You can choose 2 types of soup broth from 6 choices available, and we went for the Sukiyaki broth and Yuzu and salt broth. The price differs from the choice of meat selected, and we went for the pork sukiyaki course, which is priced at 2,680 Yen per adult. The self-service soft drinks have an additional charge of 350 Yen per person
The drinks, vegetables and noodles and available at the self-service counter near the entrance of the restaurant. The buffet counter has items like sliced cabbage, mushrooms, spring onions, leeks, chives, pumpkin, and onions. You can also take udon noodles or rice to have a more filling meal
The broth was served in the typical hotpot pot with a separation for 2 different broths, but when you place too much food on 1 side, it tends to boil over to the other broth, so most of our soup ended up being mixed
The order of the meat is done by the staff, and they will ask how many servings you prefer to be served at one time. To save time, we usually get 5 servings per plate, so we don’t have to disturb the staff so often. The service is actually quite fast and attentive, so you don’t have to worry about not getting served with enough meat to get your money’s worth. The cut of meat is premium, and the sweet sukiyaki broth really pairs well with the meat. We had at least 5 plates of meat and were really very full at the end of the meal

To end the meal on a perfect note, we went for the free-flow ice cream, which has many flavours. I had the yuzu, matcha, strawberry and blueberry, which were all extremely creamy, milky and flavourful. It is not overly sweet and the flavours like yuzu, blueberry and strawberry tasted very natural
Overall, the food is nice, and the meat served is premium quality, even though it is an all-you-can-eat buffet. The staff was also very nice and did not judge us for ordering many rounds of meat, so we really enjoyed our meal. It is crucial to make a reservation, as there was a long queue when we exited the restaurant
