Restoran Hiong Hong

This is a restaurant where the local Kluang folks hang out for casual family dinners.

A no fuss no fancy restaurant, the entire place is like your typical Chinese ‘stir fry’ restaurant except the entire premises is air-conditioned. The restaurant is fairly noisy with the usual banter from different tables

The table was already filled with food when we reached as our hospitable relatives ordered many dishes to welcome us. One of the popular dish is this clam dish with a savoury broth and spring onions. The clams were quite juicy with a very light broth with faint garlic taste.

Like i said steamed chicken is always on our table when we are in Malaysia. The chicken doesn’t disappoint with its flavourful chicken taste. However, this restaurant overcooked the chicken slightly resulting in a rather tough meat.

The fish was steamed in soy sauce and covered in fried onions and spring onions. The meat was very fresh and the fried onions gave the meat just enough crunch and texture combination.

This humble and plain dish gave me such a huge surprise that I had multiple servings. It is Chinese cabbage fried with salted egg yolk and the salty taste of the yolk is paired to such perfection with the cabbage. The cabbage is just blanched and cooked perfectly with a nice crunch.I could polish off the entire dish!

There were many more dishes like sweet and sour pork and braised beancurd which were very standard and I had no photos of them since it was snapped up pretty quickly. Overall, I would say this is a nice place to have a casual dinner with an affordable price tag.
