Bintan has many new resorts sprouting up in the recent years to capture the huge business of the weekend getaways from Singapore. One such resort is the Canopi Treasure Bay which entered the market in 2016. To differentiate itself from its competitors, it is a Glamping resort instead of the usual resort style rooms. Glamping as explained by Wikipedia is a portmanteau of glamour and camping and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with “traditional” camping
When you arrive at the reception, it is pretty small with some sofa for customers to wait for their turn to check in. The check in counter only has 2 staff serving guests and it can be a long wait if there are many customers doing their check in. While the staff are all friendly and provide a welcoming smile, they can be pretty over whelmed when there is huge crowds.
From the reception, you can take a short walk to your tents. There are 2 different types of tent, the Safari tent and the Garden tent. There are also a category of tents which are just in front of the lagoon and premium tents which comes with jacuzzi. The Safari tent caters to big family vacations as they are in clusters of 4 or 6 with a private courtyard. The Garden tent are clustered individually around garden pavilions.
We had the Safari tent which has a 4 poster bed and a roll away bed for the 3rd and 4th person. The decor of the tent is just like any modern hotel room. Something special was the bathroom which was partially outdoor but in full privacy. It really gives you the feeling of camping outside in the open. The room is very spacious and the beds comfortable and the air-conditioning provided a good escape when the sun gets too hot.
The safe and drawers are concealed in this British explorer looking luggage cabinet and it is the same for the bar snacks and bar fridge as well.

There are 2 restaurants on site and one of it is the Patio. They serve all meals in the day and you can find general western food like pasta and pizza and Indonesia food like Nasi Goreng. The other one is the Warna Warni restaurant which serves a mixture of Asian delights like Pad Thai and Beef Bulgogi. The food is very general and if you are staying in the resort, these will be your only choices.
The main selling point of The Canopi is this crystal lagoon where you will spend most of the time. This is the largest man-made sea water lagoon with a patented technology which filters the water to give it the famous crystal clear blue colour and shimmering outlook.
Those with young kids can rent one of these cute floats to just float on the lagoon and enjoy the water as a family.
For those who prefer to stay out of the sun, can get on this solar boat cruise for a slow cruise around the lagoon. Some of the other activities you can take part at the lagoon includes: jetovator which is wearing a jet pack and flying off from the waters, water sports park, water tricycle, underwater sea scooter, water zovb( giant inflated floating ball where you run inside to get the ball moving) , bumper boat, canoe, wake boarding, sailboats and more. The resort also organises mangrove canoe tours or night firefly tours.
For those who wants to avoid the water, you can take a ride around the resort in one of these classic car. There is also electric scooters, 2 wheelers, child ATVs available for rent to get around resort. At the entertainment centre, there is also the air gun shooting and rodeo bull riding. The resort also organises other land activities outside the resort like dirt ATV ride and 4 wheeler exploring tour
One of the most important activities for a weekend getaway in Bintan is the massage. The massage is also located in a huge tent and the prices are also quite reasonable. The resort also helps to organise Bintan Island tour, kelong dining, golfing and even barbeque for any guests.
Overall, this resort is very good for a 2D1N stay for relaxation and some sun and water activities. While the resort does it’s best in organising many activities to keep the guests engaged, a longer trip might get boring since this resort is not as huge as the other Bintan resorts and there is not sufficient sheltered areas for guests to just sit and chill. The resort offers pickup from the ferry terminal so it will be easy to locate the resort.
Rooms start from SGD 134 ( Agoda )
