This modern Chinese restaurant is really strong on its social media game, with constant sponsored ads and influencer marketing. I see their content very often on my feed, and with changing promotions, I decided to check them out

Located in block 3A in Clarke Quay, the restaurant occupies a pretty prominent corner of the bustling area. It is near the drop-off point next to the former Liang Court mall
A classic Teochew and Cantonese restaurant, they serve both dim sum and traditional, authentic Teochew dishes like chilled crab, Teochew-style pan-fried omelette and ngoh hiang prawn rolls. The space is decorated like a modern plush diner with a centre bar as well as tanks for their fresh seafood offerings
The table setting was elegant with lavish China, golden teapots and a marble table. We started the meal with a fish maw soup, which was served in a nice porcelain bowl, keeping the soup warm. The soup was thick with a nice savoury broth and generous toppings of seafood
We had the grilled kurobuta pork char siew served with plum pickled radish, crab meat and crab roe with homemade tofu and Teochew-style pan-fried oyster omelette. The pork was tender and has the nice charred edges, which I love for my char siew. The pickled vegetable on the side helps to balance the grease from the meat. The tofu was soft and flavourful with the fresh sweetness of both the crab roe and meat, giving it the additional pumo of umami. The omelette came last as it was ordered at almost every table. The result was an extremely crispy omelette with a burst of oysters in between each bite
We also had the pan-fried lobster with cream sauce, which was on promotion, as well as the e-fu noodles with mushrooms. The lobster was of a mid-size and had a nice charred smokey flavour, and is a nice treat to really fresh seafood. The noodles are well fried with enough chewy texture and mushroom umami flavours absorbed into the noodles themselves. The kailan were also crunchy and sweet
Overall, I really enjoyed the meal at Fu Yuan as the flavours were on point and very balanced. The price of the dishes is on the slightly pricey side, but dim sum prices range from SGD 7 to SGD 10 per plate. The main dishes range from SGD 15 to above SGD 30 or more if you are ordering seafood. If you enjoy food in a lush environment and appreciate the authentic flavours of Teochew and Cantonese dishes, it is worth a splurge
