Yuzu Suki ゆずすき (Lite)- Siam Square

We wanted to go for shabu shabu, but were too lazy to walk back to Siam Paragon, so we decided to settle for Yuzu Suki at Siam Square

Occupying quite a big building, we were enticed by the fact that there was a yuzu-flavoured broth and the pretty affordable menu

We settled for a table on the first floor, although there were many more tables available on other floors. Unlike other shabu shabu restaurants, the sauces provided are more of a local flavour, a sambal chilli with fried shrimp, Thai suki chilli sauce with lime and also ponzu sauce with cut chilli and minced garlic

The menu was extensive with shabu shabu and sukiyaki items, sashimi and sushi, tempuras and bento sets, grilled items, fried items, as well as other Japanese braised dishes. For broth, we took the sukiyaki broth and yuzu tonkatsu broth. They also provided some Korean side dishes like kimchi and seasoned seaweed

We chose a combo set which included sashimi, ingredients for the hot pot, fried rice, as well as desserts. The sashimi platter was basic with 4 types of fish and shrimp. They were mostly not fresh fish, but some were fermented or lightly cooked. They were just mediocre sashimi if I have to compare them to a proper Japanese restaurant. The set includes a basket of vegetables and 2 plates of pork: pork belly and pork collar

The pot heats up quickly, and the broth is quite light in flavour. The ingredients are fresh and are good with the dipping sauces and chilli. It is not a fantastic pot of flavours, but it is just edible and not that delicious. We also added fried yams and beancurd skin to our order because the combo set seemed really small, and we felt we weren’t getting full on the set’s ingredients. However, since the flavours were also mediocre, we decided not to order more meat or vegetables and decided to get supper instead

To end off the set, we had their garlic fried rice, which is surprisingly one of the more delicious dishes in the combo meal. We could also choose a dessert, which we chose the matcha shaved ice with red bean, which is really good as well

Overall, the food was really mediocre and not worth another visit, but the dessert was surprisingly nice and helped to redeem the meal for us
