This is my 3rd Japanese Omakase in Bangkok after the previous 2 enjoyable and affordable sessions. We found Momono Omakase on Instagram as one of the most picturesque restaurants for photos, with a delicious omakase menu
Located at the Ram Inthra Bangkok area, near Liab Duan-Crystal Park, which houses multiple restaurants, MoMono is quite a distance from the central tourist district, but is quite well known amongst locals. It took my Grab driver 3 rounds around the carpark before we found the entrance to a small path to the carpark area for Momono Omakase
The restaurant exterior was quite unassuming, with traditional Japanese bamboo doors. Once the doors opened, a pretty Sakura tree was revealed as it was the centrepiece of the reception and waiting area

Once the tables were ready, I was brought through another small bamboo door to the main dining hall, which has the counter seating found in most Omakase restaurants. The difference is that the counters here are a lot lower and the chairs are at normal height, so there is no need to climb onto a high bar stool chair. Again, the flowers hanging from the ceiling took my breath away, and the cute peach display on the back wall added to that pink sweetness atmosphere
We were first served a welcome drink with a cute smoke bubble, and I couldn’t resist getting another yuzu sake while waiting for my friend to arrive
The meal started when my friend arrived, and started with chawan ushi served in this cute nest bowl and prawn on a cracker, followed by a series of handmade sushi with different fish of the season
Next, we had seared tuna, deep-fried fish, and raw oyster in ponzu sauce, spring onions and a small handroll with freshly grated radish and wasabi
Then we had this volcanic ball filled with smoke, revealing smoked tuna fish. The next dish with over-the-top plating was the uni handroll, and next was the salmon cubes topped with shaved truffle, which piled up the spoon like a mountain
The next item was the sukiyaki of the A5 wagyu, so mine was replaced with Iberico pork, and we also had clam soup and minced tuna mini handroll
Last but not least was this ice cream sorbet shaped in the shape of a momo peach and served with biscuit crumbles, strawberry jam and cream. The next most popular dish was when the chef brought out 3 buckets of ice cream, which was made on the spot using liquid nitrogen. 3 flavours: black sesame, peach, and yuzu were all equally good, and it was an endless top-up since we were the last seating of the night
Overall, most of the dishes were fantastic as the fishes were fresh, but some of the sushi depended too much on the soy sauce and masked the original sweetness of the fish. The presentations of the dishes were over the top, but great for photos, and the Chef did try to engage with us with limited English. The experience was enjoyable, although not the most affordable
