Mibbedong

During my last trip, I finally managed to find time to visit this restaurant, which has been on my to-visit list for the longest time. I have been to Seoul at least 3 times and was not able to slot in time for this restaurant, and since then, they have opened a 3rd outlet near Seoul Forest and will be opening their first overseas outlet in Bangkok soon

Along the stretch of small shops, cafes and pop-up stores, Mibbedong is located on the 2nd floor of this building. Luckily, the restaurant put up a lit signboard along the walkway, so I was able to spot it and proceed to the restaurant. As I visited past meal times, there was no queue at all

They also placed a huge menu up front at the stairway so customers can decide what they want to eat before entering the restaurant. I assume this is really helpful when there is a queue waiting to be seated, since it is quite a small space on the 2nd floor

I did not manage to get a picture of the space as it was really small and I didn’t want to be taking pictures of other diners in their faces. I was seated the moment I entered and didn’t have the chance to attempt to take any photos. So I came here with 2 dishes in my mind since I am alone and cannot possibly finish if I order more items. They were the salmon noodles with the cold tomato soup and the snow crab paste. It is so cute that they made cute cards for their menu

I started eating the noodles first since I was sweating from the walk to the restaurant, and it would be the best way to cool down. Other than the salmon noodles, there were 2 huge ebi fried shrimps, shredded cucumber and carrots, as well as chopped tomatoes and spring onions. The salmon noodles were cut into thick strips, some longer and some broken up, but it is mostly cuts from the salmon belly, so each piece was juicy and melted in your mouth. It can get overwhelming to eat the whole strip of noodles, so break it up and eat it with the other condiments and a sip of the tangy sauce. The fried ebi were perfectly fried and very crispy, but I did feel that they were a little bit out of place. While the shrimp added texture to the bowl, I didn’t find the match since the rest of the items were refreshing and light

Next was the snow crab paste, which was served in the crab shell and on a small grill stove. The dish consists of snow crab meat, ikura, a raw egg, sea urchin and the soy marinated crab paste. The flavours of the crab paste are like mixing the crab innards with soy marinate, which goes well with rice, but on its own is slightly salty. The other ingredients were fresh and nice with their distinctive flavours, but somehow did not manage to combine, so it felt like a very separate dish

Overall, the noodles were good and refreshing, and I saw other items on the menu which looks good as well, but the crab paste, while nice, did not manage to present a cohesive flavour together
