This is not the first time I have visited Yuan Ji Yun Jiao; the first time was in Lijiang, Yunnan, and I really liked the food served. I also had the dumplings from their outlet in Singapore, so when I saw the familiar signboard at Jiuzhaigou, we decided to head right in for our dinner

The store stands out with its familiar green signboard as one of China’s most popular dumpling stores and sells up to 30 billion dumplings in a year. The store was relatively empty as we came out for dinner pretty late
Just like the other stores, this is a partially self-service store where you can put in your order via the app and collect your meals from the service counter. You can also choose to place your orders upfront at the cashier counter if you don’t have the app for payment. You can help yourself to utensils, condiments and also wash your hands at the small basin within the store
They have many different choices when it comes to their dumplings: corn with pork, cabbage with pork, chives with pork, mushrooms with pork, crab roe with pork, celery with pork, parsley with pork or chicken dumplings. For broth, they also have a variety to choose from, clear pork broth, tomato broth, saukekraut vegetable broth and just plain broth. You can choose to have them with soup or dry, with or without noodles. I like the fact that the dumplings are a good size of 1 dumpling 1 bite, and my mouth is considered small. The noodles are supposed to be egg noodles, but I found them not springy enough. The soup broth was comforting and didn’t steal the thunder from the dumplings
They also have pan-fried dumplings, blanched vegetables and desserts. The fried dumplings have crispy skin with juicy fillings, while the vegetables were just plain but refreshing. The desserts we had were sweet corn juice, which was partially sweet and savoury. I remember having green bean and red bean soup at the Lijiang outlet, but it was sold out here
Overall, the main star of the store is definitely their dumplings, as the noodles and the soup were just alright. I had the dry dumplings with vinegar and chilli in another outlet, and they were very tasty and addictive as the spiciness was just on point. The different fillings were also good so far, and I have tasted about 3 kinds of fillings: cabbage with pork, crab roe with pork and chives with pork. For a simple dumpling meal, I do think they do a neat job
