As part of my monthly food exploration, I visited the Fireplace by Bedrock after seeing an IGS about the wonderful food they served in the restaurant.

Located at the fairly new One Holland Village, Fireplace is nicely perched at the rooftop level of the building so it gets a nice outdoor alfresco area for diners to chill and have drinks
As we booked our tables early, we got a table inside. The restaurant layout is longish and you are greeted by the long food and drinks service counter where you get to see the chef in action. The air was perfumed with the fragrance of meat chargrilling and I was getting hungry while being shown to my table. I managed to get a table which was at the far end and had a lot more privacy and also away from the smoke so I did not get any smell on me at the end of the meal

I came with a few dishes in mind and went straight to ordering the ones in mind. The menu is curated and focuses mainly on grilled meats and sides

The first dish I went for was the watermelon feta salad with sliced cucumber, red onions, pine nuts, feta cheese and coriander lime dressing. The flavour was extremely light for this dish and would be the perfect dish to pair with grilled meats. The lime dressing keeps the salad light and tangy which is great for whetting the appetite as well

The next item which is recommended as a must-order dish is Von Liebig’s glazed bread served with butter and capsicum dip. The bread comes served in a clay stone bowl and looks amazing to eat. Named after the inventor of marmite, the bread is a house-made brioche bread glazed with marmite. We ate it on its own and it was absolutely delicious with a fluffy and buttery flavour with the marmite glaze giving an additional layer of flavours. Having the bread with the butter gave the brioche bread a boost in the buttery flavours but having it with the capsicum dip was probably the best way to be eating the bread as it balances up the buttery, savoury bread with a burst of tangy spicy flavours. This bread dish was in fact the best dish we had for the evening

The next highly recommended dish was the grilled avocado which is served with tomato corn salsa and topped with ponzu dressing. I have never had a grilled avocado so this dish was both new and exciting to me. I really liked the dish as you can taste the light char flavours in the creamy and buttery avocados which are again balanced up in flavours with both the salsa and ponzu dressing. As an avocado lover, this combination of flavours really complemented the avocado really well and made it a really nice side dish

For the mains, first on the list was the dirty duck which was rubbed with a medley of spices such as coriander powder, Sichuan peppercorn, and cumin powder. To keep the duck tender, it was cooked sous vide and then finished on the grill. The duck was served with peaches soaked in alcohol. I personally did not like the spices used for the duck as it was very peppery and totally covered the flavours of the duck meat itself. The peach helped to cut away some of the strong flavours of the duck and balanced up the palate. For the price of SGD 52, the serving was also not very filling for 1 person and the plating was also not exquisite enough

The last main we had was the 8-hour wood-fired roasted whole lamb at SGD 42 for 200g served with mint jelly. The lamb was very gamey in flavour and was more balanced with the mint jelly but the overall lamb texture and moisture was alright but not one of the best. My nephew who has the majority of the dish did not find the dish extraordinary

I also added a mocktail drink for dinner which was quite nice but I cannot remember what the name of the drink was called
Overall, the atmosphere at Fireplace is great for dinners and gatherings and while some of the side dishes and starters are wonderful, the mains are somewhat disappointing especially when I ordered some of the highlighted mains
