In recent years, Bangkok has become one of the destinations for quality luxury dining at an affordable price. I have travelled to Bangkok and tried at least a couple of great quality meals in the last 2 years and they have not disappointed

On my last trip, I booked a seat at Kura House which was getting very popular on social media for a good Japanese Omakase meal. Located in an area more for residential living, Kura House was only reachable via car so we took a Grab
Housed in a bungalow building, there are limited seats for each Omakase session so there is a lot of space within the building for pretty photo zones like a small Japanese Zen garden at the front of the house as well as a Maple and Autumn coloured corridor filled with pretty dried plants
For a start, the team at Kura House would place a nicely printed menu with Japanese-styled paper for each customer to understand the prepared course meal. Before the beginning of the course meal, the chef brought us this little chest box with smoke and showed us the treasure box of ingredients used in the meal. Ingredients included various types of fish, seafood like scallops, prawns and even caviar
We started the course with a starter of oyster, shrimp, fish sashimi and Junsai jelly with ponzu icy rock sauce. The ingredients were fresh and melted in your mouth with a nice tangy flavour from the Ponzu sauce. It was a good starter to whet your appetite for the rest of the course meal
The next few courses included a sashimi roll, a snow crab patty fried in panko crumbs, seafood trio toast, and grilled Tachiuo. The roll was nice with fresh fish, but the flavour was kind of mixed up, so I could not differentiate the tuna from the other fish. The snow crab patty is nice and well-fried and the plating was also very nicely done up. For the dish on the toast, I found the toast slightly soft and soggy
The next few items were the different types of fresh fish or uni paired with the specific pickled radish, wasabi or soy sauce foam. Overall, the sushi was well made in good size which can be eaten in 1 mouthful. The fish were sliced in a good size and were generally fresh, the only downside for me was the uni which had a slight metallic flavour
Lastly, the last few courses had a rice dish, chawanmushi, braised abalone dish as well as a dessert. The flavours were nice as the combination of ingredients created a nice burst of flavours in the mouth. The portions were also just nice so when all the courses are served up, it is quite filling. The dessert was a strawberry mochi dish which was sweet and chewy and was a nice finish to the meal
Overall, the Omakase course was nice but not the best I had in Bangkok so far. Most of the sushi was done well and the ingredients were of course fresh but there was no dish which stood out exclusively to me during the meal
