Most of us would be familiar with daifuku mochi from Japan where the snack is made from glutinous flour with a red bean filling. In recent years, there have been new variations where fresh fruits are included within the mochi. I have seen strawberry and grape ones from Don Donki but they are seasonal

We just finished our lunch at Hyundai Mall when we passed this stall with a long queue and I immediately recognised them as the popular Korean fresh fruit tteok which had been appearing on my social feeds. Similar to the Japanese version, they feature mochi with fresh fruits but what really blew up in popularity was the ones with Dubai Chocolate fillings. We quickly joined the queue which took less than 10 minutes for our turn
They offer gift box packaging for those who wish to buy them as gifts in these traditional and pretty Korean cloth-wrapped boxes. The flavours available were gold kiwi, honey gold pineapple, sweet red bean and butter, dried persimmon, strawberry, strawberry with mugwort mochi, tangerine, shine muscat grape and Dubai chocolate
Each piece is wrapped prettily in these colourful paper tissues and another layer of plastic wrap for hygiene. They are best eaten chilled and you can purchase chiller bags for those customers who are not eating them on the spot. Each bag was packed with a pretty card with the description of the ingredients of the mochi as well as some brand write-ups. As each pieces costs from KRW 4,000 to 4,500, we only bought the original strawberry, strawberry with mugwort mochi and the tangerine with mung bean. I personally love the original strawberry the most as the sweet and tangy fruit paired well with the red bean and the chewy mochi but the tangerine really surprised me with the juiciness of the fruit in every bite which completed the mung bean and mochi well. As a person with sweet tooth I really loved every bite of the snack and would love to try other flavours
