With over 20 outlets in Bangkok, Kub Kao Kub Pla is a casual Thai dining eatery which is fondly patronised by both locals and tourists. With great success in her dessert cafe, Chef Atchara Burarak has created the Kub Kao Kub Pla brand to focus on serving savoury dishes just like the meaning of the restaurant; dishes to eat with rice

Located on the 6th floor at Emquartier, this outlet is split into 2 dining areas
The area inside the restaurant itself is quite small with the owners fitting in many tables so each table is placed near the neighbouring tables. The claustrophobia is slightly reduced with the potted plants and warm lighting giving diners an atmosphere of dining in the garden. The external annexe is more spacious as it is open concept but there is less privacy with shoppers walking past
We ordered the tamarind drink and the fresh coconut drink. The coconut was not as sweet but was still very refreshing. The tamarind drink was sourish and good for whetting the appetite

For a start, we had the deep-fried shrimp cakes with almonds which were extremely crispy and delicious. The almonds were crunchy and matched perfectly with the succulent prawn cakes. The almonds gave an additional nutty flavour to the shrimp cake which brought out the sweetness of the prawns

One of the highly recommended dishes is the crab meat omelette which is so popular that I saw 1 on every table. This dish took the longest to serve as they needed more time to make the omelette perfectly shaped. Like a golden cocoon egg, the exterior of the omelette was golden yellow with a nice crisp on the outside. Once you cut into the omelette, it is packed full of crab meat and a soft creamy egg. Even though this dish is priced on the high side, I would still recommend trying this if you visit

The next dish served was the deep-fried chicken wings with sticky rice. The wings were nicely fried with a crispy skin but a succulent inside. Each bite was tasty but best eaten with the rice as it was slightly salty. I like the fact that they disassembled the wings into the smaller singular bone so it is much easier to eat without using the hands

The stir-fried morning glory was crunchy and fresh and it was perfectly seasoned with garlic and soy sauce. The dish was not soaking in gravy so the vegetables retained the crunchiness which was good with rice

The green curry was creamy and savoury with a nice fresh coconut flavour which is well balanced with the spiciness of the curry. The chicken in the curry was tender and in good bite sizes together with the eggplants which were cooked till soft and flavourful. It was a great bowl of green curry which was not too spicy and fitted my palate well

Last but not least, we had the seafood tom yam soup which came in a firing hot pot so the soup was kept warm. The soup was packed with seafood like river prawns, squid, fish and mushrooms. The unique part about the soup is the coconut flesh which was cooked till soft and tender. It was a great addition to the soup which was the first time I had tom yam soup with coconut flesh. The soup itself was mildly spicy and sour so it was a well-balanced tom yam soup without being too harsh on the stomach
Overall, I greatly enjoyed the meal at Kub Kao Kub Pla as the flavours were on point and authentic. The price was also affordable and the environment was comfortable. If you are looking for a casual Thai dining place, this is highly recommended
