Sweet Hug

The Penang airport is quite small compared to the bigger cities but there are still a couple of food and beverage outlets for people to settle their meals before boarding the plane

Located at the far left corner of the airport before the boarding area, Sweet Hug is a desserts and beverage store selling some savoury snacks and food. Located in the public area of the airport, people who are not boarding the plane can also eat there

The entire space is small yet cosy with a pastel color palette matching their furnishings and the lighting. There is a room with light blue sky and clouds painted on the wall which could be a hit with children. I prefer the external area which was more classy in aesthetics

We ordered the fruit tea served in a pot which is good for sharing for at least 4 people. Only 2 of us shared the tea so we had at least 2 to 3 cups per person. The tea was sweetened and packed with sliced fruits like orange, apple, lime, watermelon and passionfruit. I like the natural tangy flavour of the citrus fruits mixing with the sweetened tea for a very refreshing beverage

As we felt a little peckish, we ordered a sandwich for sharing. The sandwich was made into a sando-styled sandwich packed with ingredients like cucumber, hotdog, crab stick, cheese and mayonnaise. Nicely tucked into a sandwich paper and cut into 2, the sandwich was perfect to hold and bite without the need for any utensils. The sandwich was light and delicious due to the different layers of ingredients although the bread used was not the milk-fluffy ones used in sando sandwiches, I would still think the sandwich was tasty

For desserts, we ordered the bobo chacha and the black sesame rice dumpling with brown sugar ginger soup. Each dessert comes with complimentary fried buns which can be eaten by dipping into the condensed milk provided. The desserts were pretty general in taste and flavour as I found the bobo chacha lacking in ingredients. While it was creamy with a coconut fragrance, there were very few ingredients. The dumplings tasted like frozen dumplings so there was nothing too special but the ginger soup was nice and comforting

Overall, Sweet Hug has decent snacks and desserts which are not too expensive and are perfect for a light meal before boarding the plane at Penang airport. They have another outlet at Genting Highlands offering a larger menu
