Munchkin & The Gang Cat Cafe

Animal Cafes have been on the rise in recent years with the initial ones featuring only dogs or cats. More unique and interesting ones include owls, foxes, sheep, meerkats and more in countries like Japan, Korea and Taiwan

The first animal cafe I visited was a Huskie Cafe in Malacca and I really loved it since my parents did not allow animals in the house. When my friend suggested visiting the Cat Cafe in Penang, we all agreed even though I am more of a dog person than a cat person. Located within Georgetown, Munchin and the Gang has many different kinds of cats

As the cat cafe is really popular amongst cat lovers, the space is also quite limited and gets filled up pretty fast. We visited during the late afternoon and the whole cafe was almost full. The entry fee is MYR 25 per pax with a free drink and every customer will have to remove their shoes and disinfect their hands before entry into the cafe. As most of the customers are here to really play with the cats, most of the seats are low or on the platform floor. There are also toys and pet items for cats for owners to buy for their pets at home. The cafe does provide some toys for customers to use and play with the in-house cats

There are at least 10 different cats with individual names and different species. The house rules allow customers to play with the cats but hugging them forcefully and carrying them is not allowed. The cats are allowed to roam around the cafe freely and they might sit near you if they really like to or jump onto your table as you are eating. The cats have been trained not to eat any of the food on the table so you do not have to worry about it

We can choose any drinks which are included as part of the entrance fee and the coffee flavour is decent with nothing too special to shout about

We also ordered some dishes to share as part of our late brunch; the chicken chop, cream mushroom pasta and creamy tomato pasta. The food is generally ok and serving is also acceptable for the pricing. Since playing with the cats is the main attraction, we did not really hold high expectations for the food so we were pleasantly surprised that the food was not too bad

Overall, this is heaven for all cat lovers as the cats are docile and cute and you can spend as much time playing with them as you wish. Having a tea break here is also very relaxing as the cats roam around freely around you without disturbing you too much
