Mrs Han’s Soy Marinated Crab

In my quest to find the best Ganjang Gejang ( raw marinated soy crabs), I will mark down any new recommended restaurants on YouTube or Instagram whenever they flow into my feed

The first time I took notice of this restaurant was from a Chinese Youtuber staying in Korea who often vlogged about different soy crab restaurants. According to her review, Mrs Han’s soy crab is much better than the popular Michelin restaurant. To my knowledge, the most popular Michelin restaurant for soy crab is the one at Keunkiwajip and to date that is my favourite restaurant so I was very interested in trying Mrs Han

When I arrived almost at 1pm which is not exactly during lunchtime, the restaurant was fully packed and I was ushered outside to wait by the door. The restaurant is quite small with only a couple of tables and 2 private rooms

The menu has basic English, and although the staff speak very little English, you can still get your order by pointing to the item on the menu. The service is prompt but not exactly friendly to non-Korean speakers. In terms of price, it is comparable to other popular restaurants

The side dishes provided were straightforward and simple like a slice of rolled omelette, seasoned spicy fish cake, potato salad, seaweed, spicy seasoned dried radish and seasoned cucumber. As I was alone, I ordered the single crab as well as an additional plate of raw soy-marinated prawns

When the crabs were served, the visual was gorgeous with plentiful roe flowing from the crab body and shell. The roe was a bright dark orange which looks extremely delicious. In terms of taste, the flavour of the soy seasoning is much saltier compared to the other restaurants I have tried. The flesh is sweet and bouncy and roe very creamy which was perfect with rice

The prawn order is fixed and comes with 8 pieces of mid-sized prawns with bright orange roe in the prawn heads. The meat was very springy and crunchy with a good amount of seasoning flavour in the meat itself

Overall, the crab and prawns were very fresh and sweet with plenty of good quality roe but personally, I found the sauce too salty as after my meal, I was extremely thirsty and my lips were dry and parched from the salt. I was feeling slightly uncomfortable from the feeling of sodium overload for a good 1 hour after the meal. No doubt the seafood was fresh and juicy, but I am not a fan of the sauce so I probably will not visit them again
