Mil Toast

With at least 5 outlets in Thailand and 1 in Malaysia, Mil Toast is a cafe unfamiliar to many Singaporeans. Originating from Seoul Korea, Mil Toast differentiates itself from the competition with its soft and fluffy steamed bread

Opened at the same time as the rest of the cafe clusters in Ikseondong, Mil Toast attracts both tourists and locals with its bare minimal aesthetics and simple yet tasty offerings

The interior of the cafe kept to minimalist aesthetics and design with warm lighting and cosy wood furnishings which complements the original layout of the Hanok building

We wanted to try their french toast which was highly recommended but as we came in late after dinner, most of the items on their menu were sold out and we were left with drinks and steamed bread which is also one of their signature items

We went for hot grapefruit tea, iced lemon sherbet and grapefruit Ade for drinks. The hot tea was not too sweet with a nice tangy aftertaste and was great for a chilly night. Personally, I liked the lemon sherbet drink which was like a frozen iced lemon tea with a nice honeyed flavour instead of the usual sugar syrup flavour in most iced lemon tea

We ordered steamed sweet potato bread and steamed corn bread served in their cute bamboo steamer and wrapped in a steaming cloth. The bread was extremely soft and fluffy in terms of its texture and the inside of the bread was full of either sweet potato cubes or sweet corn niblets. The bread was served with a side of their house-made butter which is like a creamy light-tasting butter which was somewhat perfect with their steamed breads. I liked both versions of the breads; the sweet corn was both sweet and savoury whereas the sweet potato one is more on the sweeter end. I was pretty full but managed to stuff myself with all the bread in order not to waste them

Overall, I do think their steamed bread is very nice and something different from the world of croissants and pastries in other cafes in the same area. It was a pity that I did not get to try the French toast as it has gotten great reviews and I will definitely return to try it again
