I have been walking past Sushiro multiple times and even ordered delivery for their sushi platter but have not stepped into their restaurant once until recently

I was craving sushi and yet on a tight budget when I walked past Sushiro and destiny had it that there was absolutely no queue so I walked straight in with my nephew. Located on the 2nd floor of Tiong Bahru Plaza, Sushiro is very popular with the neighbouring residents as there is always a queue during meal times

We were led into the restaurant almost immediately after we got a number for 2 persons. The restaurant is sectioned out into lanes of counter seats facing the conveyor belt or tables seating for families. All tables have a conveyor serving them as the food is all self-service

In between the rows of tables, there are water points where customers can get drinking water for their meals
Customers can either help themselves to the assortment of sushi available on the conveyor belts or order via a touchscreen pad on each table. Condiments like soy sauce, pickled ginger and sweet sauce are also provided at each table while the wasabi is available on the conveyor belt free of charge
At Sushiro, you do not have to worry about your orders getting mixed up as they are sent to you on the belt via a private lane which is above the conveyor belts so you will always get your items. The screen will ring a notification to show that you have orders arriving so you will not miss your orders
Something I found extremely interesting was this series of animations created by Sushiro using their mascots and this is played in intervals on the screen to keep customers entertained
The variety of sushi available is quite substantial although some of the more unique fishes are not available but the general favourites are all on the menu. The pricing of the sushi is also pretty affordable starting from SGD 2.20 to SGD 4.80 per plate. Other items like sashimi are priced differently according to the menu or promotion. The fish used is fresh but definitely not premium grade or top grade. The sashimi is thinly sliced and the fish was flat tasting from the refrigeration. The sushi was better as the vinegared rice added a layer of flavour to the fish
Last but not least, I was attracted by the customers next to me who were having these cute bowls of noodles. The noodles were placed in this plastic bowl which looks like an earthen claypot. To prevent the soup from spilling while getting transported on the conveyor belt, there are buckets at the side of the bowl to hold the cover in place. The size of the ramen was decent for one person and can be filling for small eaters. Each bowl comes with an egg and a piece of char siew and while the noodles look plain, it was surprisingly nice and comforting. While the quality of the ramen is below those specialised ramen stalls, I would say they fare much higher than most foodcourts and hawker stalls and I would not mind returning for it
Overall, having sushi at Sushiro reminds me of those days as a student and having sushi at Sakae sushi; affordable sushi for all with basic quality sushi. I can understand the long queue for Sushiro as I would not mind returning for a meal if I was craving sushi and on a tight budget. If I were a student, it would definitely be one of my go-to places
