Before the pandemic, I had been to Bangkok so often that I stayed in almost all the hotels in the central shopping district. One of my favourite business hotels is the Holiday Inn at Chit Lom station but since I no longer travel for work, I have to look for budget accommodations

As I was travelling with a group of people, we decided to look for an apartment instead of the usual hotel rooms so we can hang out in the common areas. After some research, I found the Benviar Tonson Residence which is located along the street where many foreign embassies are stationed so the entire area is quiet and safe. The residence is about 10 mins walk from the main street but there is an available complimentary tuk-tuk ride from the residence to the nearest BTS station
As the residence is open to long-term stays as well as short stays, it felt like we were going into someone’s home. On the ground floor, there is a small child care centre, security office, carpark lots, lift to the apartments and the main reception area
There is only 1 check-in reception counter but the entire lobby was huge with a separate area for guests to relax, make coffee, play foosball or also work as they have their coffee. The check-in process was very smooth and the staff were very attentive and helpful as they offered to carry my luggage to our apartment
The corridors are brightly lit and clean although you can see the age of the building. The doors are not exactly soundproof as we could hear people walking and rolling their luggage even though we are inside our apartment with the doors closed
We booked a 3 bedroom apartment which was really huge with a big dining hall and living room area, there is also a side hall decorated with brick wall designs and neon lights which can be used as a working office space for those renting on a longer basis. There is a total of 3 bedrooms ensuite with bathrooms as well as an additional toilet in the living room area
There was a full kitchen with a huge fridge, washer and dryer, oven, induction cooker as well as a toaster and complete with cooking pots and pans and plates and utensils. This was very convenient for us during nights when we order or buy food back for supper
Each room can accommodate a queen-sized bed although one of the rooms has 2 twin beds to accommodate more guests. The bathroom in each room is also of standard size and comes with the usual amenities like a toothbrush kit, towels, bathing gel and shampoo. The rooms are cleaned and made up daily with the towels changed daily as well so you get the comfort of home with a daily hotel cleaning service
Overall, the apartment was great as it was clean and comfortable and the service was immaculate. The surrounding area was peaceful and safe with many options for street food during the day and there were at least 3 convenience stores within 5 mins walk away. Some of the minus points are really due to the age of the building as the pipes systems were slow so my bathroom sink did take very long for water to clear and one of the sofas in the living area was quite soft. It would be a great option for big groups of friends and families as the apartment can accommodate up to 6 people with plenty of living space for chilling together at night
