I first tried this char siew in Kuala Lumpur when they had an outlet at Jalan Alor which is very accessible to tourist who stays around central KL. Their char siew was really to die for and it is tough to find a match in Singapore

They shifted from Jalan Alor 10 years ago and settled into the local neighbourhoods like Happy Garden, Kuchai Lama and Glenmarie, Shah Alam which are all 30 to 45 minutes away from the city centre. I visited the outlet at Glenmarie before and it was selling a similar menu as the one at Jalan Alor where Hainanese chicken, Char Siew and roast chicken was their main highlight. We tried ordering just the char siew and was not allowed as we had to order their chicken which we did not like that much. Subsequently, we found this outlet at Kuchai Lama which served mainly char siew wanton noodles

We have been visiting this outlet ever since as they did not hard sell us other dishes and allowed us to order additional char siew on top of our char siew noodles. However, in my recent visit in March, they no longer sell standalone char siew. The shop is hardly renovated and maintains the bare facade of the shophouse with cemented floor and foldable tables scattered across the space
Under the current menu, they have dry and soup wanton noodles, options for minced meat, sausage, char siew, and shredded chicken top-ups. They also have other dishes like nasi lemak, fried wantons, minced meat sausages, fried dumplings and braised mushroom chicken feet. You can get canned drinks or homemade barley in both hot and iced versions
I ordered the dry char siew wanton noodles and the wanton was served in a small bowl of soup. The char siew is quite lean with charred bits but sadly it is not as nice as I remembered as it no longer melts in your mouth. The char siew is still good compared to many others but just not the best anymore. The noodles are surprisingly fantastic with a nice egg flavour and chewy and springy texture. The wanton was pretty general while the additional dumpling soup I ordered was much better as the dumpling had a huge prawn which was crunchy and the meat was tender and flavourful with chestnut adding layers of texture
Overall, I like the noodles very much and the takeaway portions I bought back to the hotel still tasted good even though it was cold. While the char siew was no longer KL’s best as I remembered, it is still good enough to make me want to return for a plate of old-school traditional char siew wanton noodles
