Tanrak Talaymok

When I was doing research for restaurants to visit in Khao Kho, this name came up in almost every single article as a restaurant with good food and a wonderful view

Perched on a plateau with a vantage viewpoint of the surrounding mountains, the restaurant is perfect for romantic dinners during sunset timing. There was very limited parking so our driver had to park at the side of the road while we headed for lunch

As we were rushing back to Khao Yai, we could only drop by during lunch but the surrounding decorated garden was still worth the visit. The owner put much effort into putting up structures and potted plants to make the area perfect for Instagram pictures amidst the sea of clouds

The dining area is very spacious and has an unblocked view of the mountains. For hotter months, there is also some indoor seating which is much more limited compared to the outdoor seats. A side note is their washroom is really very pretty, clean and spacious with an attendant who will assist you if you need any help but I did not manage to take any pictures as there were other people using the washroom

One of the must-order dishes here was the green curry as it was highly recommended as their best dish. Unlike the other green curry I ordered in Bangkok, their version was a lot darker and the gravy was more fluid. We ordered the chicken version and the curry came with the usual meat slices, curry leaves, eggplant and some peas. The flavour was savoury with a tinge of coconutty flavour which did not make the gravy overly milky. The dish was a perfect complement to white rice and I definitely preferred their version compared to the usual pale milky green ones I see

As we really loved the omelette we had during lunch yesterday, we decided to order a plain omelette again which did not disappoint again. The egg was fluffy with a nice crispy crust and was perfectly cooked with a balanced flavour. The egg fragrance was brought to life with the high heat used to fry the egg so each bite has that charred egg flavour with a soft inside

The other dish highly recommended was this simple stir-fried cabbage in soy sauce which is just like the ones we had yesterday. They were extremely sweet and crunchy and the light seasoning with soy sauce actually elevates the sweetness of the cabbage. I believe the local cabbage grown on the mountain all taste extremely sweet just like the vegetables on Cameron Highland are much sweeter than the ones on land

Overall, the dishes did not disappoint in terms of flavours and freshness of their ingredients. The price if compared to the one we had yesterday was slightly higher since it is considered a more tourist site. There is also a resort in the same location so guests can also book rooms and stay for the night. One of the key highlights other than the food is definitely the unblocked view of the scenery from the dining area itself
